UBC BSN September 2017

Published

Hi Everyone!

I've been searching for a thread for applicants to UBC's BScN program for September 2017, but I haven't found one. Please feel free to point me in the direction of an existing thread, or add to this one! I'm applying to UBC, U of T, and UWO for September, but UBC is definitely my first choice. Looking forward to hearing from everyone!

What?! My lines are no shorter than 400 and I applied in January haha

My last credits give me a GPA of 3.5. Which is low but it does not include my current 4.3 average as it was only the completed courses not in progress classes at the time of transcript deadline. I do have seven years experience in a healthcare setting and strong volunteer and leadership experience so I feel good about that. I really don't know how I did on Casper or how they are deciding who gets in.My hope is that my supplemental is strong enough to get me in over the GPA. But I am not confident at all

Does everyone plan to live in the dorms if accepted? I read that it may be closer/further depending on where your clinicals gets assigned because many of students might get assigned to different hospitals sites i.e: Surrey, Vancouver, Burnaby...etc.

@EtherealRailgun I only applied for apartments/studios on campus. I doubt I'm going to get one so I'll also be looking into off-campus housing if I get accepted. I feel way too old to live in the dorms haha.

Ahh haha okay. For off-campus housing, I know some of my friends (non-nursing students) were living with roommate to reduce the cost of living in off-campus housing. So if anyone is interested, that option is also available.

Yeah part of me thinks that off-campus would be smarter assuming we can all find decently priced places! So if we all get accepted and anyone needs a roommate, let me know!!

Just playing catchup since missing tons because of work yesterday!

To all who are looking for housing, I heard lots of spaces become available once people get rejection letters and such! As for myself, I would be moving back in with my parents if I had to come back to Vancouver, not keen on it but thats the best way to save money I guess!

As for GPA, all I know is I'm going in with an 83-84%, I was hoping that would be competitive but not too sure hearing its gotten higher than last years 82% average :(

Ya same here. I just need my own personal space so I can get undisturbed sleep! I don't mind noise through the walls but I do mind noise in the same room! Maybe I am getting old lol.

Great idea! Except... I don't know anyone in U.B.C....or Vancouver. :dead:

Hey Everyone! i am weighing in on the roommate debate. I currently live in a house share with 3 other students. It is actually really doable. I have my own en-suite and because we are all students everyone is respectful of noise etc. I have saved a lot of money this way. when I was looking for a 1-bedroom place in van there was nothing available that was decent for under 1200$ a month and no laundry. My current place has laundry that I don't pay extra for. I am right off of Broadway good place to be if I get in to ubc, and I pay 500$ a month. so there are options like this a plenty off campus.

I'd love to save some money but I don't feel I've much of a choice... for me its about convenience I suppose... living in res to save some time to classes and and being a part of the meal plan, I hopefully won't have to worry about cooking and doing groceries etc...

Other than that, from what I've read, placements can be all over the Greater Vancouver Area so for people with family over there, they needn't apply to res or get a separate apartment. Unless the point is to get away from your family lol.

Wow that sounds like a sweet setup! If you don't mind me asking, do you cook or eat out mostly? Whats the cost of food over there?
