UBC BSN September 2017

Published

Hi Everyone!

I've been searching for a thread for applicants to UBC's BScN program for September 2017, but I haven't found one. Please feel free to point me in the direction of an existing thread, or add to this one! I'm applying to UBC, U of T, and UWO for September, but UBC is definitely my first choice. Looking forward to hearing from everyone!

:)

I wonder what the admissions average was this year...seems like it's been going up every year! A fellow nursing student at UBC told me a prof said this year had the highest incoming averages from applicants...

I also was re-reading through my application and realized I wrote the wrong job title (I said I was a care aide instead of an assistant home support worker...), even though I correctly wrote it on all other parts of my application. I hope this doesn't screw me over. I'm scared ah!

By any chance do you know the %?

Just... frackin great... :( I can feel my chances slipping away. Not your fault in the least. I've known that the averages go up every year but to have a prof say its the 'highest'... doesn't bode well for me; I'm a second time applicant.

I don't think it's going to be too much of an issue. I think there's always some lee-way in language. So long as you accurately described what you did etc... One tiny error in the supplemental isn't going to outweigh the rest of your efforts.

I'm from Toronto and would be moving to BC(res) if accepted to the program. Anybody else not from BC? And have you already applied for residential housing? Or are you waiting for an acceptance?

Hey Tornurs! I'm from TO too! Yeah, I've applied to res, but am on the waiting list :p and I applied early too! Pretty much as soon as I completed and submitted the supplemental I applied. Trying to get an apartment.

I haven't been on the forums for a few weeks; sorry for the late reply. Just playing catch-up.

Belated congrats to @tdmah, @mdana93 and everyone else who've been accepted so far (to other schools)! Sheesh I'm late to the party...

Hi everyone, I was wondering what GPA % did most of you apply with? Its my second time applying to nursing but this year I applied with a lower GPA than previously (75-76% this year) but have more relevant volunteer experience and involved ; making my supplemental much stronger.

Thank you!!! :)

My average over the last 30 credits is 82.5% making my GPA a 3.82 on the UBC grading scheme. I had a pass/fail course writing my undergraduate honours thesis though, and my 30th credit falls within a semester (I think they take the average of the semester if that happens). But I'm concerned about my volunteer experience, it's not as extensive as I would like, so I think that I'd be scored low on that.

Plus, I'm not confident in my CASPer

Fingers crossed though!! Last week of waiting and worrying

I got accepted with 85% avg (last 30 credits, 83% avg overall) last year and I got the acceptance letter May 5 on a Thursday. I declined due to personal issues and I am applying this year with the same application! Just wanted to let people know what I know.. hope that helps

oh wow. checked housing and on wait list as well for year round ones. 50ish being shortest and 1000+ being longest. Is it possible to live in reasonable distance to UBC cheaper than residence? Quick search brings ones that are not sublet are all 900+ with not much included.

Even if I get accepted, if housing is too costly it would be a dampener.

Not exactly sure how UBC nursing calculates GPA but if it is with this chart GPA/% Equivalency | Arts Undergraduate Students I got a 82% for my last 30 credits

My average for the last year is 88.3%. I'm very worried about my CASPer score, however. I remember feeling defeated after writing it.

I'm waitlisted for year-round too. My shortest is 90, and longest is 1050 haha.
