UBC BSN September 2017

Published

Hi Everyone!

I've been searching for a thread for applicants to UBC's BScN program for September 2017, but I haven't found one. Please feel free to point me in the direction of an existing thread, or add to this one! I'm applying to UBC, U of T, and UWO for September, but UBC is definitely my first choice. Looking forward to hearing from everyone!

:)

@future RN, any update on the inside about admission timing? I guess to calm all our nerves! But thank you, 550 sounds more reasonable and brings back some hope.

Thank you for actually calling :) ...did they give you any idea on what "end of April" means? like very last day.. or could be sooner?

No, and I was too scared to ask! Haha. The good news is, the phone line to admissions is actually open! (When I called two months ago, it went straight to voicemail. Probably due to the extremely high number of calls!) For some reason, I got the vibe that we will be receiving our letters closer to the end of April. If anyone wants a more concrete answer though, please be braver than me and ask them! Haha.

@future.rn. you da real MVP. Thank you very much for calling. I was having a minor freak out. Against 550 applicants maybe I stand some chance. 900 I'd be screwed...

Out of the 550, how many get accepted? :)

@nursingbc21, 120 get into the program! Apparently people got in from the waiting list so depends on who else declines

@nursingbc21 only 120 people get admitted out of the 550 applicants

That's not too bad! It's not great, but the odds aren't absolutely awful!

Thinking of everyone today on this sunny Vancouver day! Hope everyone has a great day

@Daisy2016, too kind of you! I'm not in Van but lived there a while, hated the rain. If we make it in, I hope the program keeps me busy enough to ignore the weather! Enjoy the sun!

@to-be-nurse it is the first day of sun all week. been raining a LOT! and we had the worst winter we've had in years with a lot of snow for Van! so yes very thankful for the sunshine today! supposed to pour rain tomorrow but who knows that could change knowing Vancouver weather and Vancouver weather experts! lol

I'm still so nervous about my application - though I know all is done and there isn't anything left for me to do. I keep trying to re-calculate my GPA to see what it would be, but it gets confusing as some of my courses were pass/fail (do they count those) and I also went to a very non-traditional university. My cGPA lands me at about 3.7 (out of 4.0), but given how competitive this program is I hear that's not enough.

I also had the worst internet connection ever for my Casper (I live up North and internet pretty much sucks all the time) and I have no idea if any of my answers actually go through...

@ijfinkler-kemeny 3.7 is very good. That's in the 90%. The average of previous students was 80%. As long as you have some experience in a related field I think you're good.
