Hello fellow applicants!
I was browsing and did not see a thread for the 2018 UBC BSN applicants so thought I'd start one.
I am just finishing up my supplemental nursing application and hope to finish my application by the end of today and have already submitted my transcript. Just wanted to know who else is applying/GPA/past experiences with UBC/any tips or information for the application anyone wishes to share.
A bit about myself.. I am currently an LPN working at a hospital and also work part-time in retail in a leadership role, I do not have a Bachelor's degree but am applying anyways (hoping my supplemental weighs heavy in my favour). I have a GPA of 3.55 and will have ~30 credits at the end of this Fall term. I have some volunteer experience working with companies during their charity campaigns and am hoping to do more volunteer work this year. I will also be applying to BCIT, Langara and Queen's University once their applications open up.
Good luck to everyone and please share any information you're able too!
I know, it sounds like we need to wait 4-6 more weeks!
Ok, more questions - I still can't find term dates for the Sep 2018 cohort. Anyone got anything? I tried looking through the 2017 etc schedules but I just don't get it. The pdf I found doesn't have actual dates on it, just a curriculum framework. Why is it so hard to see actual term dates for this program?
Also, the mandatory orientation in August. In 2017, it looked like it was the Thurs & Fri before the Labour Long and start of term. Is that pretty much always it?
I'm hoping to book vacations and I'd like to have them not interfere just on the odd chance I actually get in :)

Hey, babyfriendly!
In regard to our current cohort date, you can go to UBC nursing website, click undergraduate program then on the left hand side, you should be able to see BSN Program Schedules tab. If you click that, you can see the schedule from last September (2017) to summer of this year. From there, you can click whichever term you would like to see and it will give you pdf file of the calendar. Let me know if you're still having some trouble finding it.
For orientation, I'm not sure when the actual date is going to be this year....sorry
Hi everyone! I am currently a UBC nursing student and figured I would offer some insight and help answer any questions. Last year I found out I got in on April 27 and was in the first round of offers. I'm assuming this year will be roughly around the same time. I remember how nerve-wracking the process is but even if you don't get an offer in the first round there's still a chance! In fact, last year they offered everyone on the wait list a spot and then had to accept people they had originally rejected because there were some spots that had to be filled. It totally depends on the pool of applicants and other circumstances. As far as the Casper goes, I ran out of time for many of the questions and still got in so I wouldn't worry too much about that. I also did not have excellent grades but had a lot of volunteer, work, and life experience. I think a good supplemental goes a long ways. I am not entirely sure what they look for or how much each aspect is weighed. However, I think it's safe to say UBC takes a huge variety of applicants and I think they probably appreciate individuals who are well rounded and are unique. I believe last year there were around 600 applicants if my memory serves me correctly. Good luck! Very exciting times ahead!
