UBC BSN September 2018 Applicants

Published

Hello fellow applicants!

I was browsing and did not see a thread for the 2018 UBC BSN applicants so thought I'd start one.

I am just finishing up my supplemental nursing application and hope to finish my application by the end of today and have already submitted my transcript. Just wanted to know who else is applying/GPA/past experiences with UBC/any tips or information for the application anyone wishes to share.

A bit about myself.. I am currently an LPN working at a hospital and also work part-time in retail in a leadership role, I do not have a Bachelor's degree but am applying anyways (hoping my supplemental weighs heavy in my favour). I have a GPA of 3.55 and will have ~30 credits at the end of this Fall term. I have some volunteer experience working with companies during their charity campaigns and am hoping to do more volunteer work this year. I will also be applying to BCIT, Langara and Queen's University once their applications open up.

Good luck to everyone and please share any information you're able too!

I just submitted mine. I believe it counted characters and spaces. I wrote my answers in Word and checked the character count at the bottom of the page - it shows with and without spaces. When it was 300 without spaces counted, the form wouldn't let me submit.

thanks westlife1, good luck to you!!! :) I keep rereading and editing my supplemental, I can't wait to finally press submit..!

I finally hit that submit button today. Good luck to all of us!

Does anyone have the Term Dates for the program since they changed the curriculum?

I see the 2016 cohort term dates here in the FAQ Undergraduate FAQs | School of Nursing but I think it's different now.

I'm curious how much break there is between each of the 5 semesters? Is it just approx 2 weeks between them all or do you ever get more?

Does anyone have any preparation tips for the casper test? Thanks!

Phew, wrote my CASPer today! Officially all done with the app. Now it's just waiting :D

Britt, when are you doing the CASPer? Did you end up doing any prep? I didn't....

I just did mine today too, I did some prep work but still it was so stressful with that timer! I think I did mostly good...haha but one question drove me a bit nuts. I wish I could have gone back, right when I finished it I realized what I missed.

I just did the Casper on Sunday too. I found many of my #3 questions got cut short because of the timer.

Does anyone know the weight for the Casper as far as our application goes? Which has more weight for the overall score? Grades/supp/Casper?

I wish I knew how much it counted too! It was more stressful than I thought it would be trying to hammer out a reasonable answer. Some of them I was "nuh-uh. I'm staying out of this. Who needs friends like this?" :D And that clock ticking down! It was like a bad game show... I'm glad it's done.

I agree, also am happy it's over! I've never done a test like that before - I think an actual interview would be better, but there must be a reason they switched to Casper from actual interviews.

So do we hear back around the end of April?

Anyone else doing A&P with Athabasca U? I'm trying to get through it all - there is so much detail!

Anyone else applying have kids?

Hey! If you want to look at 2017 cohort schedule, you can go to undergraduate program->BSN program schedules and you can see the calendar of current cohort. I think it only has the calendar until this summer so maybe that could give you some idea what the dates are going to be for the next year.
