UAB AMNP 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone! I'm currently a student at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. I graduate this December and I'll be applying to UAB's AMNP program this Fall for the Spring 2017 class! I hope this group/thread can be used to help each other out through the application process. Also, to anyone currently in the AMNP program, please don't hesitate to drop in and share your application experience! :)

Hello. Just an FYI about scholarships. The Spring 2017 scholarship application is open. It is due on October 31st. There is also a separate AMNP scholarship for disadvantaged or minority students that is available. I just discovered it this morning. I am not sure when it is due but I reached out to someone concerning the application and details. I was told that we are eligible to apply for scholarships as long as we have submitted an application to the school of nursing.

Thank you for that information! Where can we find the applications for the scholarships?

I received an email this morning saying that the disadvantaged and minority scholarship is unavailable for the 16/17 school year because they did not receive the funds. There are still other scholarships available though!

Thank you!! Just a couple more weeks until we find out!

Sorry for all of the post. I just want to share any information that I am able to find. I spoke with someone in the 2015 cohort. When admitted she had a 3.3 overall GPA and a 3.24 science GPA. I think that indicates that they do evaluate you as a whole. She did not give me specific interview questions but she did say that you should be prepared to sell yourself and really show why you would be a great fit for the program. She was also offered admission on the spot after her interview.

Has anyone submitted the scholarship application? I am a little bit confused because it tells me to send the recommendation form to my professors/ employers and then I am responsible for submitting it. However, on the recommendation page itself, it tells the recommender that the student will not see the page... could anyone explain?

Have them complete it and then put it in an envelope and sign it before they give it back to you. That's what I did.

Only 2 more weeks!:woot:

Thank the good Lord! :up::)

Waiting is killing me! Lol. Would anyone be relocating if accepted? I would be an out of state student (Atlanta, Georgia) so I would definitely need to look for housing asap if accepted. I will be 24 by the time the program starts so I don't think living on campus would be feasible just because I would be an older student.

Yes I would be moving from Seattle. I don't know what housing prices are like in Atlanta but in Seattle they are outrageously expensive so looking at Birmingham rentals was really quite nice since the cost of living is sooooo much lower. Anyone from there, are there any towns outside the city that might be a good place to live? I'm just a bit tired of living in the city and was thinking about something more rural but not too long of a commute to the city
