Hi everyone,
I'm considering MEPN application to the UofA next year. I've been in touch with the advisor, Chris Sogge, for the past 3 years. I have a B.S. in Computer Science and a M.Sc. in Biology from Canada . Chris said that I need a pre-req GPA of 3.7 at least to get into the program; mine is 3.3. Do I stand any chances? Did anyone get in with lower pre-req grades? I'm trying to juggle pre-req taking with a toddler. Thanks so much for your advice!

Financial aid has finally been posted! In that regard, I realize that the program is a flat rate of $44,000 for in state tuition. Does anyone know if/how this is broken down? Are we expected to front the $44,000 at once or are they taken out in installments every semester and if so, how much per semester? If we are expected to front the $44,000 then interest will be much higher than if it would be be taken out as needed!
My understanding is it’s divided into 4/Per semester. So $11,000/semester. Plus all the many fees I’m sure they charge.
Hey All!
I am wanting to apply to the program this December to enter in May 2021. I know this semester they’re looking more towards Holistic requirements and for that I have full time non-health work experience since high school, about 100 hours of volunteer work, a year in a Greek Society, and I am trying to get a job as a Tech or Caregiver so Id have 6 months of experience by the time I apply. My core GPA is a 3.7 and the 60 credit hours I have about a 3.5. I know my GPAs are low for competition but does that set of skills seem like they have a chance? I want to do it but if its a long shot then I may reconsider and do something else.
Hi @KatieDo!
I definitely think it is worth applying. While my last 60 GPA was higher my pre-req GPA was about the same and I was accepted. This year they didn’t take into account work experience unless it was healthcare related (although that could be different next year) but certainly your volunteer work would give you points and if you can get a caregiver job or volunteer in healthcare prior to applying that would be an added bonus. Good luck!!

Katie you also have time to re take some of your prereq classes to raise your GPA. Pre req GPA is weighted more heavily too. Not sure where you took them originally but I did all mine through Pima and got all A’s. Even the ones I had done from my under grad (at uofa) that I had b’s In I re took so I had a 4.0 pre req grade when I applied. You might also want to study for and take your HESI now so you have time to retake it if you need to since you have to wait 45 day in between taking it. Not sure what places are taking volunteers right now but I volunteered at the nicu at tmc from aug-dec and also a couple different places. You still have plenty of time to bring your grades up and get some extra volunteer stuff in if you want. I also took enough bs online classes through rio salado so it didn’t count one of my semesters of undergrad and Raised my last 60 from a 3.4 to a 3.65. So if you’re really wanting to get in there is still plenty you can do. I would suggest second Summer session At Pima that’s coming up soon since the class will be quick and if you already took it you should be able to get an A.... just my 2 cents.

Hi! I would definitely retake a few of those prerequisite classes and raise your GPA. I’m pretty sure the lowest GPA in our cohort is a 3.65 for prerequisites. Also, this program is HARD. So prepare yourself for a lot of studying and making it your life. I don’t think volunteer experience is that important, but life experience is. What have you done as an adult? What jobs have you held? I had no previous medical experience but have worked for the last decade since getting my undergrad. I know this is what I want to do and incorporated my other skill in getting it done.

Hello!
Thanks for the reply! I am retaking these courses, so those GPAs are pretty solid in accuracy. My Core GPA at max would be a 3.76 and my last 60 will be 3.5. I have taken all my classes at ASU. I already am studying for the HESI and confident I will get in the mid-nineties as standardized tests are my thing.
Thanks again!

Well this is disheartening news.
