UA MEPN 2020

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone,

I'm considering MEPN application to the UofA next year. I've been in touch with the advisor, Chris Sogge, for the past 3 years. I have a B.S. in Computer Science and a M.Sc. in Biology from Canada . Chris said that I need a pre-req GPA of 3.7 at least to get into the program; mine is 3.3. Do I stand any chances? Did anyone get in with lower pre-req grades? I'm trying to juggle pre-req taking with a toddler. Thanks so much for your advice!

Has anyone been successful in ordering their books yet? I have tried to use the bookstore but the link to the books has not been mad available yet.

Nope I keep trying and it doesn’t let me go to is.

I emailed them yesterday and they said that they are getting together a list which should tell us which books need access codes. They should be sending it out sometime later this week. From what I can tell there are four books that need codes and if you buy them from the FA Davis site it should cost you ~300$ and then you can purchase the other books used from the other cohort which should save you lots of money. I'd recommend waiting a bit longer to buy books until this list comes out.

Does anyone understand what the D2L books are?

They have provided a list with the books included in the bundle, and those requiring access codes, on the D2L website under the MEPN Orientation.

Be prepared to shell out hundreds in e-books. The college somehow profits from making students order these e-books that obviously cannot be bought second hand. Just one of many blatant examples of the college trying to squeeze their money-starved students.

While this is true, they do not hide this fact from you. It states in the cost estimation that you should expect to spend $1200 on books. While not ideal, they did not hide that fact.

The way I figure it is if we pay $1,200 for all 4 semesters that is $300/ semester which isn’t bad at all. Granted buying used books and saving as much as we can would be more ideal ?

Hello All,

I remember a long while back, someone had posted about an online CPR certification, that was accepted through Castlebranch, that was very cheap. Around $15..? If anyone can direct me to the website, that would be much appreciated!!

@Amanda Gold I did an online CPR / AED / First- Aid for only $15 through the website nationalcprfoundation.com which is in accordance with the AHA 2015 guidelines. I confirmed this with Chiss Sogge and he confirmed this with the CastleBranch person. This way ya'll can save some $$$

My certificate is still "pending review" on CB but I will let you guys know once it is complete/approved.

@AtYourCervix247 Regarding the health insurance question - On my CastleBranch health insurance part, it says "complete" not "approved" so I am not sure?

Hey @michelleMEPN2020I was just scrolling back through this form and saw that you used the nationalcprfoundation.com...so much cheaper than the other options I have seen online! Was it approved through CastleBranch? I'm sure it was, just wanting to double check before I choose this one. Thank you!

@Route to RN hey, yes it was accepted by CastleBranch. Sorry for the late response!

Hey guys! So I received an email on Thursday regarding the “updated booklist” - it mentions a new book on the FA Davis bundle and a link but the link is not working for me. Is anyone else having that issue?

can someone please direct me to the new booklist please.

So... Books.

I've spent way too much time on this and I'm sure you guys have done your research too. The list states now we have 6 books with required codes instead of 4. Also, the Taber's medical dictionary is online.

What did you guys decide on?
