TWU Spring 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi!

I haven't seen a thread made for the TWU Spring 2018 application process, so decided to start one! I'm the type to worry, and I know I'm not alone, so what better place to vent than here? For anyone wondering, the application date for Spring 2018 is August 15th, 2017!

My GPA comes out to a 3.720 with TWU preference. I haven't taken my TEAs yet, but plan to soon.

How about y'all?

Y'all can look up the worksheet they use and figure out your point totals. It's a ranking system.

I love the school and have had nothing but positive interactions with my instructors and the staff there in Houston. I am planning on taking Patho soon, if not I will wait.

Are you a current student at Houston?

Yes. I am in the MS Nutrition program. TWU is the only school I have applied to.

@paginglauren OH MY GOODNESS! Those are awesome stats! Did you apply the first time with the same GPA and teas score?

Thank you!! Yes, I applied with those stats last cycle. FIngers crossed!!

**edit...I should have clarified- I was offered a spot for this Fall, but I had to decline due to a family obligation.

Ah that stinks that you had to decline the first time, but sounds like you will definitely be offered a spot for spring. Are you able to give me any info about the parking options students are offered?

I am hopeful, but I know the program is very competitive. I would be super lucky to be offered a spot again.

The majority of my courses are online, since my program is tailored to folks who work full-time, but I usually park at the hospital across the street, only because I had a pass. I am not sure if TWU has its own parking garage, although I know that is something I should know. :)

Good luck to you!

Hi everyone! I'm glad I found this thread! This will be my first time applying to TWU Houston. Nursing Core GPA is 3.84 and Prereq GPA is 3.57. I only have a prior bachelor's degree bump. I will be taking the TEAS in July.

2 questions:

1) When initially applying to TWU as a transfer student, should I be applying for Fall 2017 (to be safe) or Spring 2018 (or does it not really matter?)?

2) Any advice on whether or not I should retake classes to improve my prereq GPA?

Thank you! Good luck to everyone!

Apply for the semester you want to start Nursing School.

I wouldn't be able to tell you how competitive your numbers are, but with an application deadline of August 15, I don't know if you would be able to retake any classes. I'm currently taking classes at HCC and the 2nd 5-week Summer Session ends at August 12. That wouldn't be enough time to get your class grade and get the transcript to TWU.

Just focus your efforts on doing really well on the TEAS. I want to say that with a solid TEAS (>90%) you are a competitive candidate. If someone who knows what competitive numbers look like at TWU can chime in that would be appreciated.

From what I have seen on the forums and the info sessions I went to, the Dallas campus is much more competitive that the Houston campus. If you have a bachelor's bump or TWU bump and decent GPA/TEAS, it makes you a competitive applicant at Houston.

Does anyone know how many times you can take the TEAS? Do they take the most recent score like most other schools? I've taken it twice already, but never under the TWU code. I know with the HESI some schools limit you to two attempts, some it can't be over a year old, etc... I have an overall 84% for my last attempt and know it would drastically increase my odds if I could bring that score up. Of course my biggest fear would be scoring lower.

Have you taken any of the practice exams offered by ATI? My practice exam score was within 1% of my actual exam score - that would be a really useful way to see if you're ready to retake it. I think it cost around $40? Unfortunately I'm not sure how many times you can re-take it.
