Hello everyone just wanted to see if there were anymore hopeful spring 2009 applicants out there. I submitted my application already and just sitting back waiting till Nov when acceptance/rejection letters are sent out. I know they said for us to check out emails everyday in October. If anyone has been through the application process before please share your experience. Good luck to everyone :wink2:
To everyone on the board that received a rejection letter or on the waitlist:
I met with my Nursing Admission Counselor. This is the first
time that they have seen a vast amount of students apply that have completed all their pre-reqs at TWU; which
in turn gives them a .4 bump. So for an example a student may have a 3.6 and with the .4 bump has 4.0 gets in the program.
My counselor told me with the gpa that I have I would have been accepted in the last 5 application periods and this is 3.71 and a competitive NET SCORES IS 65 to 70%...this is the norm.
They had a huge meeting because when they ran the numbers Monday night they could not believe what happened. At this
time they are concerned about the PR that may surround this .4 bump.
No, I do not get the .4 bump, but this post is not about a .4 bump so lets not get aggravated about that anymore. We are all bigger than that and we will succeed.
She advised me to apply again in December for Fall 2009. She said she did not want me to take any classes over
or try to retake the Nurse Entrance Exam because I have a great score and if I was to retake and make a lower score that is the one they will take. I am not a gambler so I will not retake the test.
There are people I know personally that had 3.9 that did not get into the program....There were only a couple of 3.9's that got into program and that is with very high net scores. Princess you had a great net score so you won a slot on the waitlist. There were 3.9's with lower than net scores than yours so that is why you are sitting in a great spot!
We are going to hang in there...all of us and our time is sooner than you know. We are going to apply by Feb.1st. and letters will come out in April. Think about it...December will be here before you know it and we will be on the board again sharing our experience and I promise believe in the Lord and yourself.
If you do not have the Lord in your life this may be hard to comprehend, but trust me Luck does not exist.
I am here for all of you and please feel free to vent and talk about your feelings and opinions.
We have each other and we are not alone.:typing
Thanks nursetobe12 now things make sense as to why I was waitlisted. Not to start anything but that's sad people with 3.9's didn't get in because of that .4 advantage. Seems like everyone I talked to got rejected but had a great gpa. I wonder how many people are on the waiting list?? If that many people got in because of the .4 advantage I doubt many will want to give up their seat. But I'm ready to start the application process over again and have a positive outlook for the fall. I'm glad I don't have to retake my NET over again.
Princess WannaBe
You sound so much better than earlier during the week and I am so
excited that you are ready to go Round #2 again.
It has been a joy talking to you and especially the support system we have going on here.
Are you going to try to take Patho. during Spring semester? If there is anyway possible please go ahead and get it out of the way, please. You will need that extra time in school for sure...we all will.
I knew that something like this was gonna happen to me. I finally figure out what I want to do with my life, and my husband supports me every step of the way saying take your time and finish the school you want while he supports the two of us. So I enrolled myself in the classes I needed to take, have made all but 3 As, and look where I end up!! Yes, I knew that TWU gave the 0.4 advantage, but TWU took over 2 months to process my application, when they told me it would take no more than 2 weeks!! Summer classes came and went, and I still had not heard from them by the beginning of Fall so how was I supposed to enroll there?

"How difficult is it to get into nursing school?
It's pretty tough. In many nursing programs, competition is fierce for a limited number of spots, so students need stellar grades from high school or their first few years of college to earn acceptance into a program. Nursing schools simply don't have the capacity to accept as many students as are qualified. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing reports that US nursing schools turned away 40,285 qualified applicants in 2007-08 due to a shortage of nursing faculty, a lack of clinical placement sites and budget constraints. Persistence may be the key for those who are truly passionate about becoming nurses. "A lot of people I know had to [apply] more than once," says Karen Burnett, RN, a labor and delivery nurse at Methodist Dallas Medical Center. Some of Burnett's friends even repeated courses to improve their grades."
*Hopefully this will affirm the fact that being qualified and being accepted into the program are not the same thing!* Good luck to all!:typing

"New" aka "nursingstudent_31",
Yes, this is something that we all know. Just because we didn't get accepted into TWU does not mean that we are stupid, as we all know that there are not enought spots for even those who are more than qualified. I, too, read your other post on the other thread, and that's ridiculous what you said. We all supported you, and you know that. What do you want us to do? Congratulate the fact that you were both qualified and accepted??? We already congratulated you for being accepted.

Yes, and I'm starting to have doubts about this whole process. I don't want to go through another year or two retaking classes at a community college that I already made a "B" in. That is stupid.
I am more than qualified to be in a nursing program, but I can't really move cities. I was willing to give them my money, but they don't want it. I'm tired of wasting my time. I think I need a different career path. This is too dramatic, and I am willing to take a pay cut to reduce my stress level. Sorry, I just needed to vent.:angryfire
