Moving this thread from the TWU 2010 spring hopefuls for those of us who were accepted. This one is specifically for people planning to attend the regular program in Dallas starting in January 2010. The purpose of this thread is to lend mutual support and encouragement to each other as we embark on this journey together. Please feel free to ask questions, and share your concerns. Everyone is welcome!

Butterfly Journey, that is what I wrote down when taking notes while talking to my friend. I also notated that I may have to go prior to the day of pre clinical work to do background, history, patient work ups, meds, etc.

She did also say that Nursing Assesment currently is taught together Lecture/Open lab and stated she thought they were talking about going back to having the lab a seperate time outside of lecture. I hope I have it right-Im just trying to get an idea what my schedule is like in advance as you know its a real challenge and juggle as a mother :)

Regarding the IMMUNIZATIONS....the paperwork staes that a Varicella titer is required??? I had the chickenpox as a little girl but I guess I should still get the titer done because it is required? HELP!

All - regarding clinical sites - I was super confused as to how to choose sites. However, today I spoke with a friend in the program, and also got some help from an administrator. This is what I was told - It is true that we will have to go to our clinical site the day prior to clinical to choose a patient and get their chart information. So that does mean that you will end up going straight from campus to your clinical site IF you have clinical the day after you have class. For instance my friend has class on Tuesday, clinical on Wed, so he has to drive to Dallas Presby from school on his way home in the afternoon. What the administrator shared with me is this - There is currently no clinical site in Denton, so it is pointless that they even have it on the list. The site for Mid-cities is Baylor Grapevine. The site for N. Dallas is Dallas Presby. The site for Frisco/Allen/Plano is Plano Presby. The site for Irving is Baylor Irving. There is a map of the metroplex on the wall in the hall just outside of the office (Rm 261) that has all the hospitals marked with yellow dots, if you want to check it out when you are down there. This is the info I got today - so just wanted to share.

Regarding the Varicella titer - doesn't that just mean they will check your blood for antibodies to confirm that you did have it?

Hi everyone,

I was shocked today to find out that I was accepted into the Dallas traditional program. What exactly is that?

Is this the right thread to ask about this program? Is it 5 days a week? I was not accepted into the post bac weekend program, but I was into this one.

Thanks,

Anny :-)

Congratulations Anny! So glad to have you with us! See you at orientation!

Supersweet, thanks for double checking that info. It would be great to only have 8 clinicals a semester, every other week. And yes, Amen to trying to figure out a schedule when you've got little ones at home or even in elementary school.

I hope that they keep assessment all in one day - that way those of us who have already taken Patho should have Mondays totally off. If they split the lecture and lab, we will most likely have lecture on Monday, which means we will have a 4 day week, and I was really hoping for 3, since I have kiddos too.

Yes, titer has to be done regardless. They just draw blood and run the test as Elizabelle said. Results are next day or 2 days tops. If it doesnt show up then you be re immunized if it does your fine! Documentation from the doctor is what they want.

Oh Yeah Elizabelle! That's very helpful!!

Congrats Anny! Welcome:yeah:

I swear someone in the program told me that you only go to assessment like 4 times during the semester. Since I don't know what the **** I'm talking about I'll just throw that out there as something I heard. :)

The guy that I talk to that's in the first semester of the program now says that they have lecture/lab for assessment on Thursdays, and the only time they go on Monday is when they have an exam. So 4 times sounds about right, if they continue to do it that way. It will be nice when we can finally go to orientation and get all of our questions answered! I just wish it wasn't the day before our Patho final!

i just got my varicella titer done last wednesday and the results were in by friday. it super quick!

Sunniiiie, did you go through your doctor's office or did you go through a clinic?

Hey I talked to my friend who is in the program now and she said that as of now there is two assessment classes. One held on Monday and one on another day, probably Thursday. But no matter when you have your lec/lab class assessment tests are always held on Mondays. I don't know if this helps at all, it might just continue to confuse people.
