Moving this thread from the TWU 2010 spring hopefuls for those of us who were accepted. This one is specifically for people planning to attend the regular program in Dallas starting in January 2010. The purpose of this thread is to lend mutual support and encouragement to each other as we embark on this journey together. Please feel free to ask questions, and share your concerns. Everyone is welcome!

Hello Dallas Peeps!
Last night, I had the GREAT opportunity to pick my friends brain who is currently a TWU nursing student getting ready to finish her first semester! So if you have any questions, let me know!
We talked about Pharmacology, Concepts and Clinical Competencies, and Nursing Assesment. We talked about the CPR class that is offered for $50 and she advised not to take outside of program as some had to repeat! And finally, we talked about the shopping list-recorder, shoes, scrubs, stethoscope, lab coat, patches, books. She said Majors bookstore carries our books, patches, stethoscopes. Scrubs can be purchased at Grapevine Mills mall or Scrubs Etc. (tops are white and bottoms are burgandy) The shoes are to be all white with nothing or very small logo, must have a heal and no mules or crocs are allowed. She said she really likes it! It is Very challenging as you are in class so much and it is hard to find ENOUGH time to study.
Hope this helps:angel:

Hey,
So, I just happened to stumble upon this thread and I'm very excited! I just recently transfered to TWU this past summer and do not know very many people and none who will be in the program next semester. It is good to hear y'all exist! I am very nervous about next semester mostly because I have not completed pathophysiology yet. Do you know if there are other students who will also need to take that class during the spring also? I haven't heard much about the program so I am happy I found your post. Another question I had is if there is class or clinical's on Fridays? I know TWU Denton does not really have them, but I didn't know if the Dallas Center would be different.
Congrats to everyone!

Hi Meg414! Welcome! There will be lots of folks taking Patho with you in the spring. Some of us decided to go ahead and get it out of the way early, but definitely not everyone. I do not believe we will have class on Fridays. I did see on the class schedule that some clinicals were held on Fridays, but I am not sure if those will be given to us, or reserved for the folks in the weekend program. Those guys have class/clinicals only on Fri/Sat/Sun, so that being the case, we might be off the hook on Fridays. I certainly hope so!

Hi guys, my name is Lindsay. I am sooo excited about nursing school this spring! Don’t worry, Meg414, I will be right there with ya taking patho in the spring. I was really iffy on taking it in the winter because I did not know if I was going to be accepted, but now I kinda wish I did. Funny how things work out. :)
Lindsay, That was the same situation with me! I really truly didn't think I was going to get in this semester, so I retook classes in order to get the GPA bump for the next application deadline. UHHH dang advisors who told me I wasn't going to get in!

Hi guys!
I'll also be taking patho...but I think we'll have a very supportive group of classmates so that should make things more bearable.
I have a question for people living in the Flower Mound area... Which area did you pick as your choice of hospital location? I'm thinking something close to school (central Dallas?) or Irving as it is between school and home. What are your thought?

That is exactly how I planned. I live in FM too. I chose Irving, Mid Cities, North Dallas, Denton, PlanoAllenFrisco.
Welcome Meg 414, and Lindsay 1208- Congrats!! No worries-

Hey guys! Elizabeth, I'm really glad you started this one. I was starting to wonder if there were any of us who wouldn't be going to the Houston campus!
SuperSweet - thanks for sharing all that you heard from your friend. Did she say anything more about the schedule?
Also, so relieved about all you guys who are in the same Patho boat!
It's going to be great :)

:yeah:CONGRATS AGAIN EVERYBODY! IT'S ME, MAYRA! So yea, I have two friends that are in TWU's program and a co-worker that just finished (supposedly) her nursing school and is "doing her clinicals now". I say supposedly because when I asked her about clinicals and uniforms, she told me a totally different story than what is true. She said we don't start clinicals until our last year and that uniforms are all burgandy/maroon (top/bottom) with the TWU patch on the front left side of chest and sometimes they let them wear pink???..but I know for a fact that TWU has never changed their uniforms because when I was in high school I remember taking a health occupation class that allowed us to do rotations at hospitals and from what I remember..the TWU nursing students have always had WHITE TOPS/MAROON OR BURGANDY BOTTOMS..so what do ya'll think? Maybe she never went to nursing school and is a pathological liar. Or maybe she's trying to throw me off..I just don't know. Why would she be like that...oh yea, and I think she took Nutrition and English last semester and we're supposed to have those pre-reqs out of the way before we even apply to nursing school. Anyways, it's hard to think that my co-worker is lying and has been lying for the past two years about being in nursing school at TWU..
YA'LL MISSED OUT LAST FRIDAY AT J. PEPES (WHOEVER DIDN'T MAKE IT). WE TOOK A B-DAY SHOT WITH ELIZABELLE (THANKS TO MY BF-HE BOUGHT US A ROUND LOL)..NICE GETTING TO KNOW YA'LL! CAN'T WAIT TO MEET EVERYONE ELSE AT ORIENTATION!!!!!!!
Well, I thought that we were restricted to white tops and burgundy bottoms too, and that is all I have seen students wear at school when I am there for Patho....until Monday. For some reason Monday I saw girls wearing all different patterned tops. So I don't know what the deal is. Funny story though - my Mom and my sister spent 2 hours in Scrubs, etc. picking out the cutest scrubs for me as a birthday gift. Then when they went to the check-out the cashier told them I would only be allowed to wear white tops and burgundy bottoms! They were so bummed. HAHA! Sweet gesture though.
