Moving this thread from the TWU 2010 spring hopefuls for those of us who were accepted. This one is specifically for people planning to attend the regular program in Dallas starting in January 2010. The purpose of this thread is to lend mutual support and encouragement to each other as we embark on this journey together. Please feel free to ask questions, and share your concerns. Everyone is welcome!

My friend said there are 8/semester and they are 6hrs each

Thanks supersweet!

Another question I had was about the CPR certification. I have heard we need to get certified but do we have to do it on our own or is there a program through the school? And when do we need to have it by?!

They will talk about it at orientation, in the past the school has offered a class/session for the new incoming students the cost is $50. My friend said that some took it outside of school and ended up having to redo it. I believe she said it is a 2-3 hour class. Hope this helps :)

Yes, thank you! I'm getting so excited it just seems like the orientaion is forever away!

Supersweet, about the 8/semester clinicals... are you saying that there are only 8 clinical days per semester? That would mean that we would attend one clinical roughly every other week. Does that sound right? Not questioning you, just seemed like my impression was that we would be doing them at least once a week and then some. If it's only once every other week, I'd like that.

Hi everyone,

I was shocked today to find out that I was accepted into the Dallas traditional program. What exactly is that?

Is this the right thread to ask about this program? Is it 5 days a week? I was not accepted into the post bac weekend program, but I was into this one.

Thanks,

Anny :-)

Welcome AnnyLPC!!! Yes, you're in the right place. You made it into the regular nursing program at TWU. Congratulations. It's not really a 5 day program. You will have classes some days and clinicals some days and from what a counselor once told me you should expect to be "involved" about 3 days a week. The rest of the time you'd better be studying your behind off. :)

Glad you found us.

BTW, what's your first degree in? I have a B.A. in Economics/Finance and an M.B.A. Worked in corporate my whole life, so this will be a huge change for me.

Thanks! I have a B.A. in Psychology and a Masters in Counseling Psychology. I plan on becomming a NP asap.

Going from an MBA to a BSN is certainly going to be a change-but a good one I am sure.

I have a private practice right now, so the helping part is not so different for me-but the way in which I will be helping is!

I don't have my second govt/history yet. I need to get these asap, right? I found a mini-mester starting Monday at Brookhaven.

Yes, NP is in my future as well. I originally started all of this because I wanted to be a mental health NP, now I'm going into it with my options open to see what all is out there for me to experience and then I'll decide what my next move will be.

Good luck with the mini-mester. I had to take a mini-mester in early summer, 10 days, 5 hours a day, but it was history and so it wasn't too bad. The guy made it all really conceptual, so you didn't have to remember dates and stuff, just write essays about events.

There is a shortage of Psychiatric practioners especially for children and adolescents. This field is going to be wide open for a long time. It is a great way to help a population that needs it.
