TWU Spring 2013 Applicants!

Published

Hello!:yeah:

I know it's pretty early to be starting this forum, but I just wanted to put my voice out there and see if there is anyone else out there hoping to join TWU's nursing program in the spring of 2013? What are you taking this semester (spring 2012), and when are you taking the TEAS-V entrance exam?

After this spring semester of taking microbiology, chemistry, developmental psychology, and statistics, I'll be ready to apply before the September 1st deadline! I'm hoping to take the entrance exam in the summer - probably June or July.

So yeah, I just wanted to see who else was out there!

You definitely want to keep track of all your books - they will help you study for your NCLEX. Also, TWU has a final exam before you can graduate that you must pass (to prepare for the NCLEX), and it covers evvvvverything you learn in those two years...beginning with good ole' patho :)

Good to know! Guess I'll start my library

I can't help but worry about my chances of getting in since so many of your stats are SO good! I only applied to TWU so I'm trying to think about what I can do to improve my chances next application period if it comes to that. I could boost my GPA from a 3.596 to a 3.71 if I re-take the only C on my transcript which is Hist 1013 that I took back in 2000 (telling my age, he-he). I of course would re-take the TEAS also but I would like to not have to re-take that class unless I absolutely have to, which would mean taking it during the winter mini-mester. Do any of you that have taken classes at TWU know if this course is offered during the winter mini-mester??? I tried to look on their website but there was no courses for Hist that pulled up for Fall 2 or 3.

Thanks for any feedback!

I am actually retaking my history currently to replace a B I had for a GPA boost! What is it with these social science classes us nursing students don't like? Haha. :)

Listen to ambrekai - if Ashley wasn't worried about it, then you are in great shape. I'm starting to really freak out too...this forum is really where most of my motivation comes from now. We need to be here for each other!:loveya:

Hey Everyone,

I see this thread is pretty active. I wanted to ask for some insight as well as opinion into what i will be applying with. I read some of the previous statements and scores, yet i'm still unable to discern or gauge my chances. I'm planning on applying to the Houston location for the Spring semester.

My current GPA: 3.5 (not as spectacular as some of you ladies here!)

My First attempt on TEAS V: 86%

I know TWU takes a holistic approach towards determining their candidates. I also have my EMT license and I was a LVN in the US ARMY in the past. I have some previous nursing/emt experience.

How would you all gauge my chances? I'm a bit nervous when I see all the brilliant women I'm competing against lol.

Thank you.

I know what you mean about the social sciences! I'm SO hoping I get in without having to re-take it. They are easy classes but SO boring to me! I think I'm obsessed with checking this site too, SO SAD!

I think you have really good stats for Houston!! I went through all the threads on Allnurses from Spring 2010 to Fall 2012, and made a list of everyone's stats, lol. There were PLENTY of people who got in with stats near yours, especially with that high TEAS-V score. I wouldn't worry about it! :D

You have great stats, ecspecially if you have any of the 1st time A's. Unfortunately though, TWU only bases your acceptance on a scoring system consisting of your GPA, Teas score, 5 preferences (1st time A's in Micro, Stats, A&P I & II, and if you have a previous bachelor's degree), and you get a .4 GPA bump for taking all your sciences at TWU or having a total of 32 of the pre-reqs done at TWU. The admissions counselor told me they don't look at any other considerations.

Thank you for your reply! :) I was also feeling nervous and uncertain because I'm a guy going into, excuse me, rather re-entering into a female dominated world. I appreciate your insight, especially with all of the data you've compiled.

No problem :) I needed something to do while waiting for fall classes...thus the obsessive compiling of info, lol!! Good luck applying!

Your stats sound really good! I would say you have a really good chance of getting in. Just apply and wish for the best. I am freaking out inside :uhoh3: about getting in also, just like everyone else. One thing is certain I worked my BUTT off and did the best I could. If I don't make it than am sure god has another path for me. :D

Amen!

I was a nurse already, I left because of various reasons. I have also been in several other professions, of which, none seem to bring the same satisfaction as Nursing once did. It seems God brought me back to it. Maybe I should listen this time? ;)

I had to retake my A&P I and II as well as Micro since they were older than 5 years. I received an A on all accounts. Do you know if they would consider that a first time A or not by chance? First time I took Stats, I made an A, so I'm fine there, but the other classes is what concerns me. Thank you for your reply!

The best thing to do would call either the Dallas campus or the Denton campus nursing department. I had a friend who was in that exact same boat and she told me that they wouldn't count as first attempt A's, but all the same I would strongly urge you to call and speak to TWU firsthand about that. I think It'd be weird if they didn't count them as first attempt A's.
