I could not for the life of me find a thread for people who were going to be going to Houston in the fall, so here we go.
I was going out for the fast track 2009 in Dallas, got denied and put back in the fall applicant pool, then BAM:D, got hit with the shocker last night when I got home from work that I had been accepted to the regular BSN program in Houston.
I'm really excited to start a new chapter and I thought this would be a good way to meet other members of the class before we get there. So shout out where you're from and your background so we can all get to know each other before August!
(P.S.- I've also been accepted to the community college in my hometown, which is closer, cheaper, and probably going to be easier, but I think it would be borderline offensive to turn down such an awesome offer, let me know what you think)
as far as women's i just took that last semester and we didn't do anything with music at all. as far as pharm it is like an outline for a paper you would write with topics and then you fill in the information about that topic. if you have a laptop and type faster than you write then i would plan on taking all of my notes on that. if not it is no big deal so don't run out and buy one just for that. pharm and patho are both only one day a week no matter when you take it (spring, fall, or summer) the teachers are only on campus that day.
i won a free med. calc book in one of my classes so I didn't buy one. I would just find a used one online just to use as a reference on when you need to learn how to calc. certain kinds of problems. i think the one they told us to buy was like $50 b/c it was the new edition. it doesn't matter which edition you get b/c they go over a couple problems in class to show you how to do it and that's it. don't spend a lot for a book if at all. for pharm, i just studied the notes. if you take patho during the fall, you will be there all day on thurs. b/c you will take pharm in the AM and patho in the PM. the first 2 weeks you feel overwhelmed like it's all too much, but it really isn't. They will give you a lot of info upfront so just be ready. For assessment, don't fall behind in your reading. stay on top of it. you will have lab time with assessment to practice your skills you are learning so be sure to take advantage of that and actually learn stuff. you will be checked off on vital signs and then at the end you will have to do a head to toe assessment on your partner. For nursing school, a 72 is passing so remember that class and lab are seperate. lab is strictly pass/fail and if you fail lab but get an A in the class it doesn't matter. you will fail the class.
