TWU Fall 2010

Published

Is anyone out there applying to TWU for the Fall of 2010? I got this idea from a previous thread and thought I should get one started for this semester, so that we can help each other and communicate with each other?

I have taken the Hesi-A2 and got a 74.8 on it so they didn't even look at my application. I live on campus so any help or information I can give just let me know. I'm excited and feel good about this deadline.

Good luck and I look forward to meeting you!

I still haven't gotten my immunizations I'm stressing over it! I finally got ahold of my records from my old MIDDLE SCHOOL (lol) and I'm prayyying that twu will accept it, so then all I need is the TB test, Varicella titer (or vaccine, idk if my insurance will cover the titer), and DPT. Oh ya, heads up to anyone else not done yet: I thought the Tetorifice shot was one basic thing I got one 7 years ago but it turns out it was a Td shot, and they want the DPT one, so make sure you have the right one!

I did my drug screening last week. Are they supposed to call us or anything afterwards? Cuz I haven't heard anything since I went, I'm assuming we just test and that's it and TWU gets the results.

I'm excited for the advisement session, especially since I didn't make it to happy hour! It'll be nice to meet each other and all our classmates! :)

I just tried to register for the drug test, but all I did was pay. How do you set up an appointment? Did I miss something?

Hey natatat, I think the Tetorifice shot lasts ten years so depending on the last time you had one, it probably has to be re-done.

I don't know if they are supposed to call us about the drug screen. I think the results get sent to TWU and from there, we should know something.

I'm ready for May to get here also....I'm so ready!! :D

TXcatcher, you don't set up an appointment or anything. They will email you with your date. It's random! You should be getting an email from them sometime this week.

What do y'all plan to wear to the advisement session? I was thinking casual dress....

DHaywood- I meant that I had a Td shot seven years ago which as a Tetorifice shot is good for another three years but TWU wants the Tdap. Td does not have the Pertusis part. That's why I was saying for everyone to make sure that they have the right one.

I got my TB test today and the Tdap. I go back Wednesday for them to look at my skin test and do a varicella titer. Hopefully my antibodies are still good and I don't have to get the vaccine! I've heard that a lot of people who had chicken pox had to get the vaccine because their titers were negative, even though they'd had chicken pox when they were younger! And everyone at my doctor's office was in disbelief that just SAYING you had had chicken pox was not good enough for the school. lol

For the advisement session I was thinking just casual. Of course not TOO casual lol but I'm certainly not dressing up. I don't know how long we're going to be there sitting around and doing stuff so I want to be comfortable.

Ok, gotcha!! I am definitely going casual with flats. I think we are supposed to be there for about 4-5 hours and I'm sure there will be plenty of questions asked which means we could be there longer...who knows.

I met this girl who got accepted to Prairie View's Nursing school and she said they are gonna have a white coat ceremony. Does anybody know if TWU does this also??

OH, and I went to the Worksource today and asked about some supplies for us nursing students, the lady I spoke with said they DO provide supplies/additional assistance if needed, but couldn't give more details. She said to bring the TWU acceptance letter, make sure your fafsa is filled out, bring in your award letter from financial aid to the office and they can help you. I believe their decision is also based on your EFC. That's all I have for now. If you guys have gotten your award letter already, I would suggest you jump on this opportunity now!! Let us know if there's anything more that we need, otherwise once I go I will definitely fill you guys in on anything I may have missed!!

Does anyone know what happens if our immunizations are not complete by May 7? I'm just worried about the ones that need to be spaced out...

I don't know if anyone else is having the same trouble, but because I don't live in Harris County, I can't go to any HCHD clinics. The Chambers County clinic near my house doesn't offer immunizations. I called the Sunnyside Clinic suggested by DHaywood, and they said I could come. So if you are having problems, call them. I just also found out that some Walgreens do vaccinations.

Now I just need to find out what to do because there is no way to have the hep-b series complete before school starts, much less by May 7...

TXcatcher, I don't think it's going to be a problem as long as you have at least started the series. I'm sure they are aware of the time frame. They are probably just going to want you to get the shot done and get the paperwork in to them asap.

DHaywood, thanks! I was getting a bit anxious about the immunizations. I figured I had them already because I remember having to get several shots when I started college at TAMU. Turns out, I only have one of the required shots...though I've had chicken pox. I'm going by a Walgreens tomorrow that is supposed to do vaccinations. Hopefully there won't be any more problems. I was getting very nervous after having issues finding out what I had from TAMU, then trying to find a clinic...too much. I learned my procrastination lesson...
