TWU Fall 2010

Published

Is anyone out there applying to TWU for the Fall of 2010? I got this idea from a previous thread and thought I should get one started for this semester, so that we can help each other and communicate with each other?

I have taken the Hesi-A2 and got a 74.8 on it so they didn't even look at my application. I live on campus so any help or information I can give just let me know. I'm excited and feel good about this deadline.

Good luck and I look forward to meeting you!

ok. for all of you who haven't gotten your immunizations yet, i called around to check prices. found out that if you don't have insurance and you are trying to go to school, you qualify to get all of the shots for $15!! it's a service fee. the name of the clinic is called sunnyside health ctr. address: 9314 cullen, houston,tx 77051. number: 713-732-5000.

there's another clinic i had been going to for my hep b shots. the address is 3611 ennis, houston, tx 77004. number: 713-527-4042. their prices have gone up though. very friendly people, wait is fairly short...that always helps.

also, check out this website/pdf file for a list of clinics all around town: [color=#339933]www.gatewaytocare.org/immunization%20clinics.pdf

I got my packet today! I've been sick as a dog the past three days with a throat infection, so I haven't been able to accomplish much of anything. I'm hoping to fill out my FAFSA tomorrow because I'm going to stay home from work for another day, and hopefully my antibiotic will have kicked in enough that I will be a functioning adult again...

I'm hoping there will be more than one section for patho or they will add another section if there is a big demand. I definitely want to take it in the summer.

Does anyone know if TWU requires more immunizations than a regular university? I had to get a bunch of shots when I started at A&M because my pediatric records have long since been lost. I'm hoping I can have A&M fax a copy over, and that will do it.

I have been doing mine at the Health Department. It was cheaper than paying for a co-payment everytime I went to see my doctor. Since my mother lost my shot record, I had to start from square one, so it was going to be quite expensive. They (health department) gave me a hard time at first, but once I told them I was trying to get into nursing school, they became very helpfull.

10.00 a shot

HEP 20.00(I think).

Would a titer have worked better? I'd rather get a titer to show that I've already been vaccinated for stuff than have to get them alll overrr... But I don't know how much it costs. I do have insurance, though. But sometimes the copays can be a lot and on top of all the other stuff we're going to be paying for in the next few months.. lol

If my shot records (which only show the vaccinations and the dates, no name brands or extra information) are not enough for TWU, I was hoping I could just get titers for the Hep B and MMR. Then I'm assuming I'll need to get vaccinated for varicella since I have no proof that I had it when I was little, and maybe another tetorifice (mine is seven years old, but better safe than sorry!). And then of course the TB test...

Does anyone know a number we can call to ask about our immunization requirements? I don't know if I should call the program coordinator or someone else... I just want to know if my shot records would be okay or if I really do need to go get titers for the ones I've already had. Cuz they were acceptable for my high school and for the HCC Phlebotomy program but everyone keeps saying that TWU is much more strict.

Just wondering if anyone is planning on joining the Student Nurses Association... The enrollment fee is $100 so I'm not sure if it's worth it. But then, I don't know anything about the association and how beneficial or not it is to be in it..

I signed up to take my drug test, But I have not heard anything back. Are any of you having any luck?

Natanat- They never offered to take my titers or I am sure I would have. Actually, after I get my TB test read today , my shot record will be complete. Yippy!

Oh yeah, the scrub pants I ordered from Avaiator Scrubs are awesome! They have 14 pockets, soft material, adjustable waist band, and they came with a free pair of scissors. The cost was only 25.00.

You kids are so on the ball! I'm hoping to get my taxes done tonight so that I can do my FAFSA. Then I have to find out about the immunizations. Then I have to start on the background and drug tests. Scrubs and stethoscopes? I think I'll wait on those... I think I might be just a tad overwhelmed right now trying to find funds for school, much less buying additional things...

Nat, I'm gonna join any and everything they offer. Joining these organizations look really good on your resume when it comes time to interview for jobs.

Dolsen, haven't heard anything either. I just got a confirmation email about my payment....Is Aviator scrubs a website? What color did you get your scrubs in??

I completed all of my immunizations and readings yesterday....woohoo!!

Don't feel bad TXcatcher, I haven't heard anything about my financial aid either. I filled out my fafsa, but no scholarship yet! I have no idea what's going on. My application says the scholarship is pending, but webadvisor says I have not financial aid....hmmmm.

Ohhh, the other day when I went to get my shots, I met some knowledgable people. I learned that the Worksource will give you supplies. Just let them know you are in nursing school. Also, a program called Be On Time will forgive your loans if you graduate/graduated on time. So if you graduated on time from undergrad, your loans will be forgiven. Once we complete nursing school..(On Time), our loans can be forgiven. The website I believe is: http://www.hhloans.com/apps/financialaid/tofa.cfm?Kind=LRP. :yeah:

DHaywood- The web address is www.aviatorscrubs.com and I bought maroon(burgandy) pants and a white shirt.

So can we order scrubs from anywhere? The information packet made it seem like we would be ordering them at the advisement session. I thought our scrub tops had to have the TWU logo or something but maybe I was wrong?
