TWU Fall 2011 Hopefuls

Published

Hello! Just wanted to start a thread for those applying to the college of Nursing at Texas Woman's University. Who already goes there? What do you have left to take? Are you nervous... etc!

My name is Alli, I will start at TWU, not the nursing program, this summer. Moving to Denton with my husband. I can't wait!

I'm still waiting for my scores...ugh....

I see a lot of people post it has the avg for program and national is that right? So for program, is that for the program we are applying to?

I'm stressing! I have a 3.2 gpa mada A's in micro and a&pI and B's in stats and a&p2...my teas score is an 89.3...not that great compared to all the 90's I'm seeing on here. I'm bummed out because of my scores and I feel a little old to just be applying to nursing school (I'm 22). But good luck to everyone!! BTW has anyone gotten confirmation from twu about receiving your teas scores?

No need to feel bad about 22! I am 25 and just now realized I wanted to do nursing school. I emailed Jeff, one of the advisors at TWU, just to confirm they received my scores. Apparently, they receive them the Friday after you take the test. Hope this helps!

You guys are cracking me up about feeling old. I'm 35 :) I don't think there is a perfect time to go to nursing school. My mother-in-law went to nursing school at age 55 and was a successful awesome nurse for 10 years until she retired. It's all about going when you are ready and when you want it bad enough. But quit saying you are old in your 20s!

On another topic, I talked to Jeff too and he said they had my Teas score also. He said all I had to do now was wait. I can't wait to find out if I make it. I guess I'll keep busy with my Patho class reading.

Thanks Jodeface. I was hoping to see how they calculated online somewhere. I have several math classes and was not sure which grade they were using...Maybe I'll have to call???

I would get an appointment with one of the nursing advisors in Denton to go over your worksheet and make sure it's all correct. Better now than later. Jeff is the best one to talk to and he can do an appointment in person or over the phone. I entered in all the grades myself and figured out what it should be and then I had Jeff do it and it was exactly the same. But it was good to see they agreed with me and have his stamp of approval on it.

Did you get your score back yet? Have you gone on the ATI website to look for it? Crossing my fingers for you :)

I was wondering how much detail do we need to go in for the Science portion compared to whats on the ATI Study Guide? In other words, should we cover more (in detail) rather than whats on the study guide...

I guess people who have already taken the tests can shed some light on this matter better than people who haven't yet.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, if you want to get the best score you can I would go over more science material than what is in the study guides. I didn't and I missed some. You can go back over notes in previous science classes and look for stuff online but honestly it like trying to find a needle in a haystack trying to figure out what questions will be on the test. Maybe you will get lucky and study the right thing and it will make a difference in your test score...one can hope!

What is this "bump" a few of you are speaking of about the TWU gpa?

I take my teas v tomorrow morning.. hope I do well! This whole application process has been so stressful for me!

If you take 32 credits of pre-reqs through TWU they will add a .4 bump to your GPA just for purposes of evaluating your application. Note: the 32 credits cannot include the computer class that is required (CSCI 1403 or 2433) which I thought was weird. If you do have the 32 credits it will look like this on your GPA calculation worksheet...this is mine: (I barely made it with 33.)

TWU

Total SH 33 SH 58 GR 216 GPA 3.724 Adjusted GPA 4.124

The first SH is for Study Hours (credits) at TWU. The second SH is for total Study Hours. GR means total sum of grades (A = 4, B = 3, etc.) So in my case 216 divided by 58 is how my GPA of 3.724 was calculated and then .4 added on to that for the bump. I hope this helps anyone who was wondering how it was calculated.

Are you taking Patho right now, and if so where? I finished my last prerequisite class in January and now just sitting around waiting to see if I get in. I have applied to several jobs, but haven't heard anything back. I was thinking about getting the Patho book or possibly taking the class, just to maybe get a head start? It sounds like that might be what you are doing?

BCPOOL,

I am on the same boat as you..I have applied to 100 jobs and still no reply (errr).. I am just sitting around thinking what can I do before school starts in FAll.. I am also thinking about taking patho's but scared if schools will accept the grade since some of them want you to take that class at their school..

I hope I get in TWU..My GPA is really high but my TEAS score is really bad comparing to everyone else...I cannot even take it again since the application deadline is coming up soon..

I am taking Patho at the TWU Denton campus right now. It started on January 18th. I really hope it makes the first semester of nursing school easier. They will most likely offer it again in the summer. What kind of jobs have you applied for? I am thinking about applying for a CNA job to start getting the feel of being in a medical environment and being around patients. I found a place that pays you as they train you and pay for your state test, they then give you a job but you are supposed to commit to work for them for a year after that. The next interview day for the training class is Feb 8th and I am debating back and forth if this will be a good idea. I think if they will let me work part time then I will do it.

Hi guys! This is my first post here, and I was wondering how long it took TWU to receive your TEAS score after you took the test. I took the TEAS yesterday, and got my score report online today. So TWU should get it pretty soon, too?

Thanks, and good luck everyone! :)

I don't know how soon they get it but they had mine in less than a week. I took my test on a Wednesday and I had an advising appt the next Tuesday and they had my scores. I would call the advising office in Denton and ask if they have it. Does is have to be in today since today is the deadline to apply? Are you applying to the Dallas campus? Good luck!
