TWU Fall 2020 Applicants

Updated:   Published

Hey there. I plan on applying to TWUs N&W program in February for the Fall 2020 start. I just took my TEAS test today, my score was:

Overall: 85.3%

Reading: 87.2%

Math: 96.9%

Science: 74.5%

English: 83.3%

I'm not happy with my science score, but I also haven't taken A&P II or Chemistry yet, just A&P I. I plan on retaking the TEAS in December.

I have a 3.85 science core GPA (one B in A&P I) and 3.81 prereq GPA. that gives me a 45.56 admission score, which probably won't cut it. I can't retake A&P I in time, so my only hope is a higher TEAS score.

Who else is applying for Fall 2020? Are you applying to Houston, Dallas Traditional, or Dallas N&W?

I did my TEAS today, glad to have that over with. Calculating my points I'm at 66.3 and am applying to Houston.

That's a great score! How did you do on the TEAS? Was it difficult? Do-able?

Congrats! Is TWU your first choice?

Thanks. I did pretty good, my lowest score was in English. It was the last section and I was starting to second guess myself. I have a habit of doing that and then leaving an exam and knowing the right answer haha.

I re-taught myself math from the Brandon Craft videos; the math wasn't bad, a lot of ratios and equations. A lot of the science was basic, but had questions on just about every system. I wasn't sure if I was doing well on the reading, some of the questions had ambiguous answers. Overall it was easier than I expected. I used the ati book, which I'd definitely recommend getting if you haven't already. The science section in it certainly doesn't cover the science aspects in depth enough for the exam.

For me it's between TWU and another school. My worry is it's a bit longer in terms of duration; I've been saving to stop work but it's a little worrying. I have kids and the health insurance will be a killer without working. On the flip side, I really loved the school and the general culture there. Everyone I have dealt with there has been nice. It seems to have a really caring environment, which really suits me.

Thank you for the response! Doesn't sound too bad. Im afraid of the English section as well. I bought the practice tests on ATIs website, their book, and I bought the mometrix ati book. I took the practice test and did well on all sections except the English section. Too many grammar rules I need to learn ? lol

The English mark isn't as important as the reading and science for the overall score. I underestimated it so didn't really study it much, but even then it is doable. Looking back just knowing the punctuation rules is one of the main elements, and there were a few of the spellings people commonly get wrong. If I was doing it again I'd watch the Carolyn McCallister videos on YouTube. I used one of hers to understand sentence structure a bit better and that helped.

I felt there was a lot more grammar rules in the Mometrix than there was on the test. What was covered on the test is is very similar to the practice tests on ATI... like punctuation (especially colons, semicolons, quotation marks), commonly mispelled words, sentence clarity. identifying parts of sentences (like adverbs, pronouns, subject and predicate, conjuctions etc.), subject/verb agreement... I seem to remember subject/verb agreement was a pretty big one.

Hi, I really need an advice rightnow.

i just took ATI TEAS my great wasnt good.
66% in both english and reading. but my science and math are really good.
I dont know should I retake it for now or push my application until Spring2020. So, I know it takes 30days then I can retake the Teas. That means Somewhere at the last week of January. I am so afraid that I may miss the deadline since the Nursing Cas said it need 2 wks to vertify documents.

What do you guys think? Please help ???? i am so sad rn

I don't think you need to wait the 30 days to retake the TEAS. If you go on TWUs website and click on the TEAS section, there is a document that gives you instructions about taking the TEAS and it specifically says that they don't have a waiting period before retry's. As long as you don't take it more than twice between August-Feb, you're good. (might be wrong on that date, double check).

I also read on the TEAS website that the school receives your score right away if you take it at TWU or within 2 hours if you don't. So while it may take NursingCAS 2 weeks to verify your documents like transcripts etc, I don't think it takes 2 weeks for them to receive and process your TEAS score.

Again, I might be wrong so double check. If anyone can confirm or correct what I said, please do.

You don't have to wait, you just can't take it more than twice during the application period

Thanks for all advices ?

Hey everyone! Good luck on applying for the fall semester. I am currently in the N&W program at TWU and I know how hard it is to get information in regards to that program so if anyone is applying to the N&W program feel free to ask questions. Again good luck!
