TWU Fall 2020 Applicants

Updated:   Published

Hey there. I plan on applying to TWUs N&W program in February for the Fall 2020 start. I just took my TEAS test today, my score was:

Overall: 85.3%

Reading: 87.2%

Math: 96.9%

Science: 74.5%

English: 83.3%

I'm not happy with my science score, but I also haven't taken A&P II or Chemistry yet, just A&P I. I plan on retaking the TEAS in December.

I have a 3.85 science core GPA (one B in A&P I) and 3.81 prereq GPA. that gives me a 45.56 admission score, which probably won't cut it. I can't retake A&P I in time, so my only hope is a higher TEAS score.

Who else is applying for Fall 2020? Are you applying to Houston, Dallas Traditional, or Dallas N&W?

Thank you for the tips!

I have a question that idk if you know the answer to but if anyone else reading this does then you're welcome to respond. Anyway, do you know if TWU bases their admission solely on their point system?

I applied to UTHealth here in Houston and their website sorta makes it seem like all that they base their admission on is GPA and HESI scores (they don't have a point system). However, after attending their info session, the advisor basically said that they do look at GPA and HESI but they also consider overall academic performance and trends. So if you have a lot of Fs or repeats on your transcript they might not admit you.

I did HORRIBLE in college when I was fresh out of high school. I have several Fs on my transcript from the first college I went too. (Which is probably why I got rejected from UTH last fall). However, I have since retaken these courses and passed them. I'm hoping TWU goes only based off of their point system because if that's the case, I'm sure my application could be competitive as long as I score well on the TEAS. But if they also look at overall academic performance, I'm screwed lol

TWU only goes by their point system and are very open about their process whereas UT keeps what they look at pretty much a secret lol. I would still apply to all schools you are interested in, because you never know what may happen and TWU is getting more and more competitive. The first round of acceptances was cut off at a 47 score, then eventually people with lower scores were accepted as people started denying their acceptance. Best of luck!

I really hope they only go based off of their point system lol Lone Star does the same thing so it was pretty easy to gauge how competitive my app was compared to others.

I did 3 semesters at Lonestar Cyfair's ADN program. A family emergency came up during my summer semester and due to it being such a compressed semester and the family emergency, the stress was immense and I ended up failing ? so this would be my second go at nursing school.

Sorry to hear that. When I did my advisement session the advisor was pretty up front that its just based on points which you can see on the points sheet.

I'm sorry to hear that, but the important thing is you are still going after what you want! You can set up an in person advising appointment or even a phone appointment to talk to DeJanae the advisor. She is so helpful and ultimately she made me realize TWU was the school I was meant to attend and now I'll be starting there this spring ?

That's awesome! I'm sure you'll do great ? How big is your class? What has the time from acceptance to now been like with TWU?

I believe somone said ~120 were accepted. Our apps were due 8/15, I got my acceptance 10/27. We just had our orientation on 12/6 and have a follow up orientation on 1/10 before school starts on 1/13! They've been keeping us in the loop on things we have to complete before the start of class and we also have a cohort Facebook group where everyone shares info!

Thanks for the specific information! I'm hoping to get into the TWU Dallas Evening/Weekend Program for FA2020.

For those of you going for your second bachelor's, do you know if you need to retake history and government? I assumed those would transfer from my first degree but my pioneer portal is saying those requirements are incomplete

I believe they should. In my advisement appointment all my courses transferred including those. I'm still waiting on my TWU acceptance though.

It depends on how long ago you took the credit hours. I think if it was over 10 years then you have to retake them, but checking with the Office of Admissions Processing will clarify any concerns.
