TWU Fall 2013 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone!

I am starting this thread... a year early. That is how much I want to be accepted into the Fall 2013 BSN program at TWU in Dallas. I am taking my TEAS on August 30 so that if I have to, I can take it again the following application period (after September 1). I have finished my prerequisites (last week of Summer AP2 right now, hurray).

I hope other people see this forum so that we can all talk and encourage each other about getting into the program (and be stressed out together)! Seriously hoping that this next year flies by! I Look forward to get to know other hopefuls!

This week has been the slowest week of my life!

I think the weekend program is only for those who already have a bachelors...I THINK.

From the website: The Dallas Center will offer a six-semester full-time program for people holding a bachelors or master's degree in other fields who want to become registered nurses (RNs). The program plan leading to a baccalaureate degree in nursing has been modified for individuals who have previously earned a bachelors or a higher degree.

I have a BA and an MBA, and I work full time, so this program is perfect for me. Which is why it is the only one I applied for. Good luck to all of the traditional program applicants - even though I know I'm already in, I've been watching and waiting to see how you guys did!

Hi everyone! :smug: I applied for the Summer/Fall 2013 admission for Houston and am going crazy waiting! I received my acceptance for UTHSC Houston this week, and hopefully will hear from TWU soon too! If accepted to both (which would be amazing) I don't know which one I would choose...anyone unsure like me?

IMO from what I have read online, students at TWU Houston seem happier. UTHSC Houston has a lot more funding though and resources available. I'm so undecided!

I think it is such an added benefit that UTHSC Houston goes throughout the summer. That basically enables one to graduate earlier. That is awesome. I wish I had applied there, but I didn't know that their class sequence was set up that way.

I'm in the exact same position! I don't know which to choose if I got into TWU also..

It is pretty cool that I would graduate December 2014. But apparently with UT I would do most of my clinicals the very last semester (because I was accepted for their pacesetter program apparently) ...which I don't think TWU does. I don't know if this makes nursing school harder or easier? At first thought I think harder because of the time lapse between lecture. And for UTHSC we have to make a decision by April 1st! What we don't hear from TWU by then? UGH. More anxiety.

Congrats on admission !

Do you work 40 hrs a week ? I'm really debating on the weekend program or traditional. My undergrad is in International Business, so I have no health/science-related experience.

Thank you! No I don't. Working 40 hours and going to traditional nursing school sounds crazy to me. But I have heard of people that do it.

Mzipper61 what I personally don't like about the pacesetter program is that while your going through lecture your clinicals reinforced what you did in lecture and you get that live experiance, plus you are completely hands on the entire time so once you are a nurse you feel 100% comfortable and confident! That's just my opinion though its so much easier to learn somthing in the class room and that same week see somthing that corresponds with what you learned, that way you have that connection. Although I do like the fact that uthsc is 16 months straight through that's why I'm leaning more with utmb bc you get the straight through program but you also have your clinicals along the way, my only concern is that, I think it's so awesome to actually be in the med

Center and see a lot more stuff, but I've had several utmb students tell me they have clinicals in the med center just like twu and uthsc so

Idk I'm sure we will all make the best decision for our own personal preferences! Goood luck and congrats on being accepted to uthsc!

Mzipper61,

Oh ok I was accepted to the traditional program at UT that still goes straight through the summer like tess said. But I still find it to be a tough decision.

Thank you! I agree with you completely. Not having clinicals along with lecture seems so bizarre to me. It also seems like more work if you have to relearn the information. This might make my decision for me if I have to choose between UTHSC and TWU. Are you currently going to UTMB or recently accepted?

Mzipper61,

I am confused though. I guess the accelerated program is the traditional program? Why call it accelerated then? And theres only a month difference between the two programs it says online? My acceptance email said Fall 2013 but it didn't mention which program I am. I read on another forum that since I am fall 2013 instead of summer 2013 I am automatically pacesetter.

How do you guys know what program you were accepted into?
