TWU Applicants Spring 2011

Published

Hello Everyone,

Well I am currently looking to apply to TWU for Spring 2011. I thought it would be nice to start a thread because I am sure we will all need a good support system. The whole application process is so STRESSFUL!

Lets Get It Started!!!

I've already submitted my paperwork, just waiting on one school to send an updated transcript. The reason I've heard that being male could be a benefit is that it is a woman's college traditionally, and they need to have certain demographics. If less men apply and they have to have a minimum number of men, then my chances increase. I did repeat A&P I once, but other than that, nothin. Here's to hopin!!

Another question for the experts out there: On pre-clinical nights when we have to pick a patient, roughly about how long does that take? 30 mins? 2 hours? Also, is there a certain time you have to go, or does it depend on your class and/or hospital?

Everything depends on you, your patient, your hospital, and your clinical instructor. However, I haven't heard of anyone that actually got to 'pick' their patient. Usually the Charge Nurse or your instructor will assign a patient to you. I have taken from 1.5 hours to 30 minutes. I have heard of it taking longer though.

This is the reason why I don't believe your sex is taken into consideration when selected:

Texas Woman's University is committed to equal opportunity in employment

and education and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color,

religion, sex, sexual orientation, national or ethnic origin, age, veteran's status,

or against qualified disabled persons except as provided by law.

However, there are about 9 guys in my class...out of 97:D. The PT department has a ton of guys in their program. There is a great mix of races in the program, too. There seems to be a preference to those with a previous degree...though I don't have one and still got in:yeah:. I really hope things go your way...keep us updated:up:

Hey Trucho, I have applied for Fall '11 but I'm also wondering if I will get in with my stats. I got a 92.7% on the TEAS V, have a 3.702 GPA and have all As in the 6 important classes except for a B in Micro lecture (got an A in Micro lab though). I don't know if I should stress about it and come up with alternate plans in case I don't get in or feel pretty secure that that is good enough. I guess there is no way to really know and I just have to wait until April. I'd be happy to hear anyone else's insight about this. Good luck to you.

I had a 92% Hesi, and all A's except for B's in A&P, A&P2, and Micro... So you're definitely going to be considered.

Thanks Ryan T, that makes me feel better! Are you at the Dallas location? I was wondering if someone could tell me what my chances are of getting clinicals in Fort Worth...

No, sorry. I'm at the better campus in Houston :coollook:

Hello - I'm an S1 at the Dallas campus. I have not ever seen/heard of student getting sites in Fort Worth; the closest I have seen is in Arlington for Mental Health in S1 semester and Baylor Grapevine in J1 semester.

I am waiting in suspense with the rest of you, but I was wondering what you guys think about what is considered a "good" score for the TEAS V. I know you have to have atleast 64% (& I did surpass that) but am still slightly worried about my score :uhoh3:

I am new to this forum. I just got my Teas V score 3 days ago and it was just right on passing. (64.7%) I still did apply to TWU nursing program for both weekend and traditional program. My GPA for all prereq is 3.72 plus a .4 bump. I' m a second degree student and my core classes is good i think: B for A&P1 and A for A&P2, A for Micro, and A for Stat. all in first attempt. I am just so down with my TEAS score. Just got so nervous on the day of the test. Can you pls let me know what you score you got on TEAS V. Thanks!:o

Ser,

That's good information; thanks for letting me know. Baylor Grapevine would be the closest for me since I live in Keller. As an S1, how do you feel about the nursing school experience so far? I hear just horrible nightmare stories about how hard it is and I just can't imagine it will be that bad. What is your opinion?
