TWU Applicants Spring 2011

Published

Hello Everyone,

Well I am currently looking to apply to TWU for Spring 2011. I thought it would be nice to start a thread because I am sure we will all need a good support system. The whole application process is so STRESSFUL!

Lets Get It Started!!!

So, for 25 minutes, you get to play Student Doctor!!! Over the semester you have to learn how to assess the entire body, in a particular order, along with vital signs, and patient history. During the checkoff you are given a senario which covers body systems at random that need to be assessed. Everything is from memory!!! You have to assess a live human while being timed. There are certain things during the checkoff that you cannot miss or you automatically fail. If you fail the checkoff after the 2nd attempt, you fail the ENTIRE course. It was just a ton of pressure and too much uncertainty for my little brain to handle. I passed though...I just feed off of procrastination:nono:.

whoa. That's intense. We had to do a PA to pass assessment, too, but it wasn't on a simulated dummy with like 300 problems that we had to figure out. We had partners and simply had to pull for different body systems and perform that assessment. I'm nervous about TWU, but excited at the same time.

Hi everyone! Does anyone know if there specific shoes we have to wear? or can we just wear sneakers? :) Thanks!

You can wear any shoes pretty much, but they should be all leather just in case some fluids get on them in the hospital. They say all white or all back, but so far no one I know has gotten in trouble for shoes having color on them. I wouldn't test the theory too much though...I say stick to mostly all white or all black leather shoes. I bought the Dansko nursing clogs and love them! Just get the ones with a back. Also, don't panic about it too much before school starts. When you go to lab, they won't be too, but they must be closed toed. I've been wearing my regular asics to labs, and my clogs to clinical. If you need time to go try on shoes, go ahead and do it. I bought shoes online and ended up hating them and then bought the clogs.

You mean for advisement day tmrw in houston? Well, we didn't even get directions to the campus and parking locations, so I doubt they expect a dress code. :clown:

There is no required dress code for Advisement day...just don't come dressed like an idiot (it might be cold outside). The complete dress code for classes is online in a pdf format. You should get more information about dress code tomorrow. I hope you guys come with a list of questions to ask the faculty and staff. TNSA will also be there tomorrow if you have any question and for registration in the organization.

Get some sleep:yawn:

BTW...there is a MASSIVE parking garage attached to the building. Google the school for directions if you need to.:D

Hey missmoe? just one last question tonight: what do YOU recommend we buy tmrw? I've read TXCatcher's view, what do you think?

Thanks
