I have worked in a LTC for six years as a LPN. Recently, I was hired PRN in a new facility.....waiting for full-time. Not sure if I would actually quit my current job, PRN made it easy for me to test the waters at this new job. Well yesterday, I worked at my regular facility and informed our central supplies person I needed briefs for res (which I had done friday as well) and she tore my ...ss up. She yelled at me, told me to go get them myself (which I had already done, I was just informing her that the facility would supply her briefs, not her family as I did friday as well). I ended up walking away, and she continued yelling at me until I had enough. I turned around and told her I was sick and tired of her inappropriate way she addresses me when I ask for supplies...................she came walking towards me, yelling at me the whole time. My unit manager stood there..not sure what to do I guess. This woman was pointing her finger in my face....tellling me what my problem was.......I told her to stop and get out of my comfort zone........She wouldn't, instead of backing down from her......I told her if she wanted to ever sit down and have a conversation about what people say about her I would be more than glad to ....for she was yelling at me........telling me what people think of me. Long story short, I have had....I gave my two weeks notice.........I told them "this job is hurting my self esteem and I can't do it any longer." What happened to the supply lady....well ya know "that's just the way she is." Screw that. I am sooooo done!

I am so sorry that you had this experience. The fact that you had no one in the chain of command to back you up is just horrifying. You should not have been treated as such. I know what it's like. I have been in administration for the past nine years and I never had any staff turnover because I treated my employees with respect. I never allowed anyone to yell and scream at another employee. It just wasn't tolerated. The unit manager should have brought both of you into her office and closed the door with rule number one being NO YELLING. Then she could have listened to what this rude person's major complaint was and then your calm version of events. Keep your chin up. What goes around, comes around. Hang in there. My thoughts are with you. Hope you find something really great.

Kudos to you for not allowing them to do that to you! Wish everyone had that in them. If we ALL did what you did- we wouldn't be having these type of problems to start with. They'd have to get rid of the people causing the problems rather than risk losing so many good people.

Wow, that is just outrageous! I think you were generous in giving two weeks notice. If that happened to me, I'd finish my shift and never go back. But your course of action is far more responsible because giving two weeks notice makes it easier to get a job in the future. With that being said...I would roll the dice with future employment status and not return the next day, lol. But that's just me.

Good for you! Things like this seem to happen and be brushed under the carpet in LTC. I saw CNAs and supply clerk do this once to a few nurses at one place worked. When it came time for me to get the treatment, I calmly went thru what you did, then stated "If you do not stop your threatening behavior and abusive language, I will be calling the police" Hmmm...someone backed down and adm suspended her. (I pushed the fact that with residents in earshot that was considered abusive ...emotionally toward them)

Thanks for the support you all. I kept to myself all shift today, and plan on doing so until the end, which is only 5 more working days. I need to complete these five days to get my 80 hours of vacation pay. I have been yelled at so many times by this person, and others, at this place. Heck, I have been there six years. I just can't do it any longer. Today is the first time in those six years, that this same lady came up to me and actually informed me politely about something I ordered last Thursday for a patient. She actually said my name, looked at me, and calmly explained it would be in tomorrow. I didn't even have to ask her about it (because I wasn't going to). But her now polite behavior, is WAY TOO LATE. She didn't apologize, and she never will, and even if she did it is still WAY TOO LATE. The administrator came up and said "Oh, I heard and I am very saddened, I wish you good luck." I bet money on it he doesn't know what happened. He probably heard that I had another job (which I do) and thus is quitting because of that. If he comes up to me again and says anything I am going to calmly state, "I am sorry, but I just can't allow any one else to ever treat me like this again." If he knows, then he should agree...and if he looks confused.....then I will explain to him what took place. A nurse from a different unit told me she doesn't want to see me go, but she surely understands why I feel like I do. Several of the CNA's gave me a passive aggressive hard time today, and I hope they do not do this for the next 5 shifts. Even though I am quitting, until that day I am their boss................but I plan to cause no waves. Just bowing out gracefully, ya know. My feelings are really hurt though. But on the positive, my new job is in a brand new facility...very pretty and smells so new and clean. New faces...new beginning.

Hi Busy Bee

You did yourself proud by not giving in to the shrew that was yelling at you. OUCH she needs an attitude adjustment or at least someone needs to find out what is going on in her life to make her this way.

I want to wish you all the very best in your new job. New start, new friends and bigger smiles ok? :)

:uhoh3:Four working days left, can I do it? I have 80 hours of vacation coming to me and I'll be darn if I loose it because I break. It's getting really tuff. Had several assistance complaining loudly and abrutly in dining room yesterday because I was checking in a patient with a spine fx. The dining room was covered, they had no room to complain. One of the assistance from about 30 feet yells "I don't care who just came in, these patients need fed." We had two family member in the dining room feeding their loved ones, one assistant and one other nurse. It was well covered. I looked and this assistant when she walked by and said "I don't think anything more should be said about the dining room." She turns around after about 10 steps...said my name and said "DON'T YOU EVEN TALK TO ME!" I went to the ADON and told her about it. I told the ADON four more days is all I want, and I'm skating out of here, but I won't be abused during those four days." She said "and you shouldn't be" I am afraid what is going to happen if I keep telling them what is being said to me. They can decide to just let me go, but if they do what about my vacation pay?

Gee........ you made me not even want to talk to you, but I had to wonder.

DID ANYONE EVEN TALK TO HER, about the disrespectful, rude, anti-therapeutic workplace behavior??????????????
