Trying to decide whether to take AP II in the summer session

Published

I am taking AP I right now...

I would appreciate any advice on taking AP II in the summer. I am starting Nursing in the Fall. I have everything transfering from previous college except the biologies. Would love to start the fall with both APs under my belt.

But do I want to take AP II in 6 weeks? Or should I just work it into the fall schedule????

Thanks I LOVE This website

If i were in your shoes, i would go ahead and do it. Just because its 6 weeks doesnt mean your not going to learn the material needed, make sure you stay on top of things and understand everything in detail. Sure it might mean studyin for hours in the air conditioned building and only being tempted by the perfect sunny day outside the window:cool: but worth after 6 weeks.

The other thing, take it this summer and if you feel like you didnt learn enough or didnt get a high enough grade, retake it in the fall.

thats my 2 cents

I took A&P I in the summer session last year. Wasn't too bad. I think it's best to go for it, get it over and move on to the Fall semester w/ all pre reqs done.

Good luck.

I wouldn't. To be admitted to our school's nursing school it is strongly discouraged to take the science classes during the summer. It will appear on your transcript when you took your classes, so I won't take chances of not being admitted because I didn't take A&P it during a regular semester. It would be too much for me anyway because I have a kid on summer break to take care of.

Thanks for the advice, I think I am going to take it. It is mid-summer and will get me reviewed up and ready for the fall instead of leaving my brain out in the sun all summer. It is 6 weeks, but my hubby can help with the kids...

The Nursing program will only look at the AP one, I am taking now for my entrance into the program, otherwise I'm all set.

Here's an interesting thing that worked for me. I had taken some college course around 15 years ago, didn't do great with C's etc. BUT, come to find out your GPA is wiped out after 10 years. The classes still transfer, but my GPA is totally on what I am doing now. If I get a 4.0 in AP, I have a 4.0 GPA isn't that wonderful???

Wow, it must be nice to get breaks like you do at your nursing school.....we sure don't and A&P 2 is required to get in. Good luck!

I'm sorry I phrased that wrong. They would look at the AP II score, if I had it, but you only need AP I and to get a good grade to be admitted into the program. Which I should be accepted into the program before I even take AP II am I confusing or what...

I was applying to a Nursing School here that had 100 seats available and about 600 applicants, they wait with a 4.0 (which is how you got in) was about 3 semesters.

Then I applied to a Nursing school with no wait and 250 seats. It winds up it is closer to home and has a better rep...

Our school is kind of weird, and what they do doesn't make any sense. they say all you need is have completed A&P1 and some math score or college algebra to apply to the program....I won't bother applying until i have ALL my pre-requisites done because they won't admit anyone anyway who hasn't completed all classes and they see what your true GPA is after having taken all those classes. They have a point system, which means penalty points for repeat classes, they don't like to see science taken during the summer and you better have an A in A&P, and have an overall GPA of at least 3.5. I'ts very competitive here and I plan to take A&P 2 in the fall when my son is in school so that I have some free study time. I will take a 3 credit hour class in teh summer and I am thinking of Growth and Development or Ethics. I'll put my son in a summer camp during that time. Good luck and I hope you find a way to learn those terms.

Yes you have to have all that Math and English here too. I just had it from previous college. I was a journalism turned Pschy major so I have all the required courses that way. Ya know all my life (I'm 39 now) I thought I wasted my time in college, but now when I am doing what I really always wanted, it comes in handy. Funny how God works things out huh?

Best of luck to you too. And thanks so much for the advice.

Nothing is ever wasted! I was an English major and have an Associates in Elementary teaching  I had a baby at 38 (my youngest, who is eight, my oldes will be 22 next month) and took time out to be with him, now that he is in school and I don't quite feel or look 100 I decided I wanted to do something more challenging and started to take those science classes towards nursing. I should be ready to apply for nursing school next spring.

I am the oldest student in my micro class and got 100 on our lecture test yesterday :angryfire

You go girl, chase your dream and good luck

my Mother-in-law who is turning 67 tomorrow, inspired me. She is in her third semester to be a Surgical Tech. She's getting all A's, doing surgery clinics and loving it!!
