Trying to decide between Ohio Univ or WGU for RN to BSN. Since they are both accredidited, price and length of time to compete are a factor. Any opinions please help?? Anybody have anything positive or negative to say about either???

Well this is just a rough estimate, and a person would need your transcript to be sure but it looks like with Ohio, (for a typical EC student) you would have 5 general eds to complete, and 12 nursing courses. If you were to take, 2 nursing courses as allowed (you have 2 that you must take alone), concurrently with 1 gen ed, it would take about 9 months to finish, but since they have only 8 start dates per year I would adjust that to 12 months. Note that Ohio only recommends taking courses concurrently to those who are NOT working full-time, and can dedicate full time study to school work.
The other option would be to take the nursing courses one-by-one and take the gen eds, concurrently with the nursing courses. That would take about 15 months to complete.
In the above scenarios tuition should be about $11,000.
Ohio. does regular grading and you will end up with whatever grades and GPA that you earn from a 0.0 to a 4.0.
For the same student at WGU, you would have 7 courses to complete, if you took two terms (12 months) to complete the cost would be $6,500. With that said, many people easily complete the BSN in one term, at a cost of $3,250.
At WGU they grade on pass/fail, on their assessments, with a standard B for a pass. So your GPA would be a 3.0.
Thanks for the input did you attend either one?
You're welcome. And no, I am still in EC's ASN program, but I will be attending WGU. Read these two threads for more info. The first in one that I started and in the other look for the posts by christy78 she is a current student.

I've been struggling with the same decision. What decided it for me was that the NP program I want to apply to does not accept the BSN from WGU because the GPA is not listed on their transcripts. They stated that was one school they had issues with. I think it depends on your long term goals. I didn't want to close doors to possibilities down the road. Best of luck with your decision.
And MTsteele is right, it really depends on you and your goals. I personally will get my MSN at WGU, and then go on to get my NP post-master's certificate, either online on at a state school (with very prestigious nursing program). All of my options have no problem with WGU.

What MSN course of study are you going to pursue prior to the certification? Good luck to you!

Thanks. I am still torn at this point. I am leaning toward education, because I fee that nursing education in my region is severely lacking, and would like to start a program one day. But, with that said I always saw myself being apart of management, since working my first CNA position in a nursing home. I just can't say for sure, but it will likely be education.
Good luck to you as well!
