My associate is going before the Board of Nursing in NJ for professional misconduct (no drug related issues). Before I get specific with details, does anyone have any experience before the board? She's a very good nurse and this is a nightmare. Thanks

Only to say that I am not in NJ, but I did have a co-worker - friend who had lost her job (I wasn't there at the time, she explained to me what happened). Next she lost her home. And successfully re-educated in another field. And then after a period of time, with much discussion back and forth about her registration, she again became employed in nursing.

Obtain an attorney, prepare for another career, employers as wel as the BON in my state are under the impression that nurses are a dime a dozen, next thing the BON will be submitting her name to the Office Of Inspector Generals Office Exclusionary List, remember this reporting will stay with her forever and can and will be used against her at any time. Good Luck.

hey----- i'm the agnescwal on here, having trouble with IPN; but when I appeared before the BON, there were 20 cases before me. one in particular almost made me turn around and go home and find another career. this guy was an RN, Emergency Room Nurse...25 yrs !! this patient comes in ER thrashing, spitting, (he says it was drug overdose), screaming, etc. well, this RN said "SHUT-UP!!!!!...Listen ! we're trying to get you to tell us....." ETC. you get the picture. well, the FAMILY was there, called him in, and i'll make it short, he LOST his licence...I mean REVOKED!! just for "shut-up". at a moment when you're trying to get info, (what drug did he take, what pain do you have, etc, etc,) I would've done the same. is this similar? he had a lawyer with him, but it didn't help. but he said he was going to appeal (which is your right) tell more about what kind of accusation...like i said, i saw 20 go before me! SCARY!!!

In this country where individual rights are so coveted you can lose your license for a lot less than "shut up". Just as using those words to an developmentally disabled person can get you into court. Isnt it just as important that we "normal" people get just as much consideration? Anyone who works or has worked with the DD population and has had the orientation that goes along with it, knows you have to pick and choose your words very carefully. Simple little words that most of us use every day toward others "silly, clown, goofy" even if said in a playful manner, can be fatal for your career if someone percieves it the wrong way and wants to press the issue.
Somtimes simple little things, can get major trouble. We had a nurse that supposedly, accidentally knocked a patients call bell off the bed and forgot to put it back up. She's gone, the patient said she took the call bell away from her. Did she, didnt she,, i dont know but point being if the patient percieves it that way, and want to press the issue, they win.

seems like our BON's are buying into the customer is always right syndrome. Man, this is too scarey to think about.
