A while ago I posted asking about the nursing program application process at Tri-C. I just wanted to update that I received acceptance into the Spring 2010 semester . The process was actually pretty fast. I am very excited. Hope to hear from others that will also start at Tri-C in the Spring.
NewStart2010:yeah:
To those of you already in Tri-C's ADN program...how many days a week are you actually in the classroom?
I'm asking because I'm ready to select my preferences and I live in Westlake, however, the Westshore slots are filled for Spring 2012 already, but Eastern has openings. It's about 25-30 min. drive for me to attend Eastern, but if it means starting 8 months sooner, would it be worth it? (I'm utilizing the GI Bill which will run out for me if I wait for the Fall 2012 slot at Westshore)
Also, if you're at Eastern do you have to select east-side clinical sites, or would I be able to select something closer to the west-side of town?
thanks for your advice!
You will generally be in the classroom 2 days a week, have lab on one of those days, in addition to having clinical on 2 different days of the week. Clinical sites can be located all over town, including the west side, no matter which campus you attend. You might want to let the office know that you'll accept an Eastern campus slot, but would like to be considered for a Westshore one if someone drops out.
I take exception to ScottE's comment #372: It is unlikely that, as a first-year student, he has an informed opinion. As one of the faculty/staff, I will tell you that, yes, our program has grown, but our faculty has more than doubled to accomodate that growth and we've gained new facilities and clinical sites, too. Tri-C's administration has been extremely generous with money and resources. The switch from the NET admission test to the HESI came about because the NET ceased to exist after a merger of 2 publishing companies. The change in admission requirements for accelerated program students was discussed long before the new dean arrived, but the college process for program changes takes a while to kick in. ScottE is not privy to faculty/administration decision-making.
Thanks for the info, AssocaiteDegree! I really don't want to wait until Fall 2012 to get started, as it will be a financial burden when the GI Bill runs out in the middle of my program, so I'm glad to hear driving out to Eastern may not be a daily occurence...also glad to hear west side clinicals are an option.
AssociateDegree,
Since you are faculty/staff at Tri-C...I'm curious as to your thoughts on all of the Associate Nursing programs offered in NE Ohio, and the rate at which they are graduating students into a job market that's still weak?
Students will talk...other RN's will talk...and I've been hearing that it's getting more difficult to land a job as a new grad, whether it's in LTC, Nursing homes, or the hospitals. I won't be graduating until end of 2013 (if I start Spring 12), so obviously the market could change...
Hello guys,
I just took my entrance test and passed with 98% June 22 and my background check June 23. Do I have to fax the school the stamped paper that the BCI place sent me? I did but at a later date. Faxing it at a later date will that delay them sending out my application? I was also wondering how long should it be before I receive my appication? I want to attend the Eastern campus on the day program ( on the site it says they are still admitting) and was wondering how the waiting list is for admission? I have already took A&P I &II, DIET 1200, PSY 1200, and the English. All I have to do is take micro 2500. So I am just basically waiting to start. Any help is appreciated!

Hi,
Like you, I just took the entrance test(June 20th) and am waiting for the application. You can either fax or turn the stamped paper in to Tri-C. I don't think doing it now will delay you at all, but..don't quote me on that. hah. I guess it all depends on whether or not they've received the results from our tests yet, and that happens once a month apparently; I'm not sure when that is though.
Ok I got a email today from the school saying that the school did recieve my entrance exam results but it also says that they did not recieve my BCI info. I did fax it to them on July 8th. It says on the bottom of the email if I did send my background check recently that I may not have cleared but... I know I do not have anything on my record.. should I be concerned and call them or just not worry because I sent it and the time frames are kinda close.. thanks again

Huh, that's odd. I would definitely call to see what's going on! I received the e-mail from the nursing dept. containing the application today.
When you did the background check, did you receive the e-mail from Corporate Screening containing the user and pass to check your report? If there was any problem with your background check, I'd imagine you'd find out in the report.
Regards,
Jay

They switched to HESI-A2 RN around Christmas of 09. They also now require all students to take the entrance test where before those applying to the "accelerated" program didn't have to take the test. These changes probably coincide with the new dean taking over, but I haven't really looked into it that much. There has been a lot going on. New programs added and stuff. Frankly in my opinion and the opinion of a few faculty and staff the program has gotten way too big and is beyond reasonable limits. It was at a decent size with the day and accelerated program at Metro the Nights/Weekends at East and the Parma Hospital program. Now they have Day Evening and Accelerated programs at Metro, Day and Evening at East, a Day program at Westshore and the Parma Hospital Program.
