Tri-C in Cleveland

A while ago I posted asking about the nursing program application process at Tri-C. I just wanted to update that I received acceptance into the Spring 2010 semester :D. The process was actually pretty fast. I am very excited. Hope to hear from others that will also start at Tri-C in the Spring.

Welcome to The Tri-C Bookstore

Cuyahoga Community College - Ohio

If it's a class with a lab IE Bio 1100 or 2330 you're likely not going to be able to get in since there are only 24 seats in the labs (8 tables with 4 seats each). Otherwise there is a form you pick up from admissions and records that you bring with you to the first meeting of a class and have the professor sign. What the form actually looks like I have no idea. I just know it exists.

Actually there are only 6 tables.

I have a question about the hesi a2 test.. is there really a physics section on it? im supposed to take this test later this month and thats freakin me out. never took it!

Just googled HESI A2 and got this link HESI A2 Test

It's covering,

1. Anatomy and physiology, biology, and chemistry each have 25 questions.

2. Vocabulary and general knowledge has 50 questions.

3. Reading comprehension has 50 questions.

4. Grammar has 50 questions.

5. Basic math skills has 50 questions.

According to Tri-c, students with A2 composite score of 75% or higher in both the math and English language portions of the exam will be sent an application to Nursing program.

It's stupid easy. The Tri-C version of the A2 test omits the Physics portion and only the Math section and the Grammar, Reading Comp, and Vocabulary sections count. A trained monkey could get a 75% on this part of the test. I literally just showed up for the test, took it, and scored a 100% on the Math and 98% over the 3 reading sections and a 98% over the entire test.

Is it better to take the lecture before the lab on same day?

I'm taking Bio 1100 and Bio-2330(AP-I).

That's how it normally is done. Lecture then a short break 10-30 mins then lab. I had lecture before lab in every science course except from Bio-2500 where I had lab before lecture. It doesn't really matter with 2500 since there isn't much congruency between Lab and Lecture.

You really should look into taking the Chem 1010 + 1020 sequence rather than just Bio 1100. Yes it will take you longer to complete the program, but if you have any aspirations of going further than an ADN then you'll need to take 1010 + 1020 eventually. Having taken these courses made the upper level Biology courses really easy.

Currently I have Bio1100 and AP1 registered. I did want to register Chem1010 with AP1, but that can't be done. If I take Chem1010, my entrance to Nursing will probably delayed 1 semester. That's the dilemma. If I take Chem1010, that's all I'll be taking this semester, because AP1 is concurr with Chem1020 so AP1 will have to wait till next semester. What do you think? I do want to get BSN and further into Master.

In all honesty you are already looking at a Fall of 2012 start date at the earliest. Since, by the time you finish all the prereq courses to sit for the HESI-A2 test and then apply for the nursing program Spring 2012 will likely already be full. I'm not sure what other courses you have taken if any, but you need English 1010, 1020, Math no lower than 1200, Psych 1010, 2020, + another Liberal Arts Course. This on top of Chem 1010, 1020 or Bio 1100, A&P 1 & 2 and Microbiology.

Hey guys I am new to this so I hope I am not posting in the wrong place.. Anyway I hoping to get a little clarity. I am currently going though the process of applying for the nursing program at Tr-C. I have completed my back ground check and A2 Hesi but I have yet to receive my application. I have spoken to a few nursing students who have mentioned that they did not have to wait as long as they expected to get into the program. I would really love some more feedback on this matter as I am trying to get an idea of how much time I will have before the program starts as I have two small children and well... I guess the details don't matter it would just be nice to have a better idea of how to plan for the next two years. Also, I am finding it extremely difficult to get info from Tri-c and I am getting mixed information from posted documents regarding the application process. At this point I have completed my prerequisits, taken the Hesi, and completed the background check. I haven't heard anything from tri-c even after leaving messages with the nursing department. After taking the background check I decided to go ahead and schedule the A2 without waiting for instruction from Tri-c. I am begining to wonder if that was a mistake. The good news is that I passed! :yeah:

Well, I am taking chem 1010 only now. In route to CRNA I think BSN is required and BSN will require chem 1010 and 1020. I have to find out if I really need to have BSN for CRNA program. I know they want it, but this one doctor who knows well about CRNA programs told me I shouldn't need it since I have BS. Also, according to the counselor I met, all I have to take before applying is chem 1020. I'll be taking chem 1020 over the summer. Eng,math and psyc requirements have been transfered cool! So I'm wondering now how long the wait will be if I apply after summer grade come out.

JMoran, did you study for A2 test? Is there a study guide? Whose the program manager for the background check?

There's a study guide for the A2 that you can pick up at the Tri-C bookstores. I did purchase it before I took my A2 but to be honest, I would have done just as well on the test if I didn't have the study guide. It wasn't very useful or needed in my opinion. But, if you feel that it may be helpful, go for it!

When did you take the HESI? They only upload the results on the 1st of every month. So, if you took the exam in Early February they won't get the results until next week. Your start date will be no earlier than Spring of 2012 so you've got a lot of time I'd finish up all the other requirements and possibly take HTEC 1610, BIO 2600, and DIET 1200 these courses will help you out when you get into the program. That being said, they usually mail the applications out in bunches. If the end of March rolls around and you still haven't gotten the formal application then I'd start to get worried.
