traumatized by vermin

Published

I live in Tucson. I'm on the far northeast side. I've lived here for a few years. The vermin are traumatizing me. I just had an encounter with the BIGGEST SPIDER I HAVE EVER SEEN INSIDE. I'm still shaking. I realized after I saw it that it was too big to kill with a shoe. Long story short, it has left this world and its corpse is on my patio.

I am moving to Phoenix for nursing school soon, when my pre-reqs are done. I know that the newly developed areas have the most insects indoors, but still? Are certain areas worse than others? Does Phoenix have as many 'vermin' as Tucson? Here's what I experience outside: tarantulas on my sidewalk last week, bobcat by trash can a few days ago, a snake by my drive a few weeks ago, and javelina come by my bedroom window at night. Indoors: spiders, roaches, and the occasional scorpion. I have been stung by a scorpion. It actually wasn't too bad. A little nausea, cramps, rapid heart beat, and numbness. (((It's the large spiders that I cannot handle.))):uhoh3:

Nope, she is moving from Tucson to PHX.

Unless we can convince her to stay;) .

Thanks Cardiac! :icon_hug:

Maybe I can get into Rio Salado without being waitlisted more than one semester - and stay in Tucson. One can always hope!

One a separate note, at least my spider wasn't this big:

Now a lot of bad things have happened to me since moving to AZ but if I saw anything like those spiders I would have to go home

luckily for me I live on the east coast and don't have to deal with those kind of insects, but I will say that I have family that live in that area and far as they tell me that there is way to make some home remedy for keeping them away, although as for the snakes anywhere you live there isn't much that can be done. maybe you may want to contact a plant nursery to see about getting rid of the vermin they say there is something that they are attracted that could get rid of them and keep then from the house also contact pest control and see what they could offer natually to help the situation.

I have tried everything under the blazing sun for scorpions. The best way to kill them is to smash them with a shoe :trout: My husband has special sandals that are the designated "scorpion smashers".

The first spider is called a 'Bird-eating Goliath.' It is in South America. The second one is a Camel spider. Its home is in the Middle East.

That is horrible. It must have been so painful. How long did it take to completely heal and be free of pain?

It took about 9 weeks before it truly didn't hurt anymore, I had to walk funny because of the pain and that resulted in a stress fracture to the outside of my foot, so my whole foot was just in misery during that time. Fortunately I only had to miss one day of work, I have a truly amazing tolerance for pain d/t chronic back pain so I was able to come back to work and just take advil and aleve.

I think part of the reason I got so literally traumatized feeling is because after this spider in my house - I got on google and searched images of MANY MANY MANY spiders trying to identify my vermin by its corpse and I came across these HUGE spiders I posted also.

It doesn't help that I have post vitreous detachment (floaters in my vision) so I see tiny dark squiggly things in my vision already. Keeps me hypervigilant thinking I'm seeing vermin running in the corner of my eye. Here's what it looks like, click on "floaters and flashes" for a stimulation"

Years back when I worked in an ER I recall a patient complained of seeing dark tiny moving objects in her vision. The resident started to call for a psych consult and I clued him in regarding PVD and floaters. Leave it to an ER clerk to educate a resident. :rotfl:

Awwww don't feel too tramatized!

I'm an AZ native and I have NEVER in my life seen a scorpion in my house. I've seen them while hiking, fishing, and camping at up at the lakes .... but never in my home or outside around my home.

It really must depend on the area you live in because like I said previously, except for the occassional cricket and gecko (which are a good thing to have around in the garden!), I never see any vermin.

Heck we don't even have coyotes around here. Nothing. I guess that's a good thing about living IN the city rather than on the outer parts.

But yeah those pictures are traumatizing! I never saw big insects like that until I moved to TX. You can ride on those cockroaches! Talk about a traumatizing experience, those things were HUGE! Even the crickets were big ..... I remember seeing a cricket and I thought it was a roach because it was the size of the roaches here.

I have lived in the desert for 8 months now-I have never seen a scorpian and I dont want to but I am vigilant all the time as I am petrified lol.

I see hunderes of crickets and cockroaches the size of your thumb everywhere. Spiders there are lots and even though in england I never ever killed one here they are viciously killed because hey i dont know what they could be.

No snakes yet but I am told it's a 991 firemans job if you met up with a rattler.

My family and I pass areas where we imagine how may rattlers must be hiding in the bushes, now hiking here wouldnt be for me
