  1. Should I risk it?

Greetings!

So this is the story:

I went off to a four year university after I graduated high school in 2009. In the summer of 2010 I went back home and decided to take some summer classes at my local community college, I turned in my official college transcripts from the university to the community college at that time.I ended up dropping out of those classes that summer so I didn't earn any credit. Fall 2010 came and I returned to the four year university, however I decided to leave the university after that semester. I had dropped most of my classes and had only earned 3 credits for a speech class I had taken. I came home and attended a technical school for medical assisting which I graduated from in Oct of 2011 and then started working Jan of 2012. I started back taking classes at the same community college that summer semester and have been taking classes and doing very well, I currently have a 3.5 GPA.

My dilemma:

I am finishing up my pre reqs for the ADN program at the community colllege. One of the requirements to apply is that all of my transcripts have been turned into the college. I am not able to get my transcript from the four year university because they are on hold until I pay them $800. (My parents were supposed to pay this for me after I had left the school, but they never did.) I don't know how I am going to come up with all the money before this August (when I plan to apply to the program). I am thinking about applying to the program without sending in my transcript, the school already has my transcripts that I had turned in before and that speech class I took isn't required for the ADN program. I won't be using financial aid (hopefully) so there isn't really any way they are going to see I was at the four year university for a semester that they don't have transcripts for.

I don't know if I should risk it or not lol

So what do you guys think?

I would Write on the application that you have attended another college in 2009 but dropped out due to finances and they won't release the transcripts.

This particular problem has prevented me from getting my BSN for a while now. From what I've been told it's fraud to withhold those transcripts when you're applying.

Lucky for you, you only owe $800, mine is $8000.

How is its fraud when she can't give them?

The school knows that the transcripts exist, they want the official transcripts. The easiest way out of your dilemma is to pay the $800 so that you can free up the transcripts.

They most likely won't consider your application completed until you have all official transcripts in. It's either pay the $800, get your transcript and apply to you program, or don't pay, don't get your transcript, and don't apply to the program.

You can't produce/save/scrounge $800 in 5 months?

You can either satisfy the request for $800, or potentially risk forfeiting your spot to someone who has their transcripts ready to go.

Will the university accept payments?

Will the college accept unofficial transcripts under these circumstances?

Will your parents relent and pay at least half of the bill?

Don't wait too long to exhaust your options. Months have a funny way of turning into years when we hit seemingly insuperable road blocks.

No because I pay for all of my schooling and books out of my own pocket. And of course there is rent, utilities, and my car payment ever month. And the $800 is currently building up intrest because they sent it to a collections agency. Maybe if took a semester or two offf I could save it up, but for me it would take some time, thanks for the suggestion

The OP is being disingenuous in what she has written. According to her timeline, she graduated High School in 2009 and went away to University from Fall 2009 to Spring 2010. She then returned home to attend Summer School at a Local Community College. You finally dropped all your CC Courses and went back to your University for the fall of 2010 and eventually dropped all your classes except a 3-credit Speech Course.

So OP, what happen to all those courses from Fall 2009 to Spring 2010 (maybe somewhere between 24 - 30+ College Credits)? Is it that I'm missing something here and if so, maybe you want to correct the record as it stands. The way things now appears, is that you are attempting to conceal bad grades for the missing period and the issue has nothing to do with a measly $800 unpaid Tuition. You said that the Local Community College have a copy of your 4-year University Transcript...is that for the ALL the semesters at the 4-year Institution or just 1 Semester (Fall 2009)?

Could the OP expose the weakness in my perceived timeline, since things are not adding up. According to her, the only course she has done at the 4-year University is the 3-Credit Speech Class.

This is not what you want to hear, but if the program that you are applying to requires that you turn in all transcripts than you need to figure out a way to pay the bill that you owe to the university and free up those transcripts. Have you even talked with the collection agency to see if you can work out a payment plan? Many will work out a deal with you, and some will even accept a lower amount if paid in full. This is not going to go away, and even if you are able to get into the program at the community college, if you continue on for a BSN this is going to come up again. Also even though you plan to pay for everything out of pocket if there comes a time where you need to get financial aid again this debt is going to affect you.

Yes, I will clear this up for you. Like I said I turned in my transcripts to the community college when I first attended. This was my transcripts for both Fall 2009 and Spring 2010. They have those transcripts on file. The classes that I had taken those semesters were the remedial courses that didn't count for credit or go towards my GPA ( I got As and Bs in all of these courses). Then I returned to the university Fall 2010 were I took college level courses, however I ended up dropping all of them except for speech. the only class I have actual credit for was the speech class (which I got an A in). The only transcript that they don't have is for Fall 2010. Not trying to hide any bad grades,( I left the university with a 2.0 GPA and I currently have 3.5GPA). I am just trying to get some advice and see if maybe someone else has been in this situation before.

Thanks for your post
