Okay, so I am all set up to take the teas next month. Today is the first day I have had to really start studying. I pull out all the practice tests I printed off the net, got my prep book next to me, and...I am, so frickin' lost on where I need to start. I thought I would start in sciene with the prep book. Okay, so I read the section and answer the questions, but how am I supposed to remember this stuff for a month? And then, I had no idea what to do about math. I can rock me some basic math, but algebra is just another word for the devil. The printed out practice tests I tried to do...well, tha twas just a barrel of laughs. I attempted the first 5 problems and got 1 right.
Can anyone share their tips on HOW to study for this test. Tips, techniques, any help. Here I am all excited about going to nursing school and begining my dream career, and it hits me: You can't even start pre req's till you pass THIS test! I can already feel the ulcer starting!
Please, I am desperate and terrified all of a sudden. Any help will be SO very much appreciated!!!

I took the TEAS V last month and I'm not going to lie.... it really sucked. I thought it was hard and im always amazed to see people on here scoring 80s and 90s! Maybe i should've studied more? Anyways, I lost track of time for the first part of the test (reading and comp section),and found out I only had five minutes left and had to guess on the last 10 questions :0( So please don't lose track of time.
The Science part was hard. You really need to brush up on everything: A&P, chem, life biology (cells and its organelles). I had one punnett square. I think everyone gets one punnett square. I also had a couple of questions about the food web.
I studied out of the Mcgrath-hill nursing entrance exam book. The math section really helped me out! My score was just OK. The average for the school im trying to get in was 63% and I got a 70 and i'm pretty sure if i did not run out of time in the first section my score would've been higher.
Good luck and I hope I was a little helpful :0)

If you truly don't know any algebra, you might have to take a class. Does your program require algebra once you are in the program anyway? Why not take it before, get it out of the way and then score higher on the TEAS? There are a lot of things you'd learn in a class like FOIL (Front, Outside, Inside, Last) for solving quadratic equations that would help you out a lot.

Hi there!
I completely understand how you are feeling, as I just got through BOTH the TEAS and HESI exam three weeks ago! (I had to take them a week a part from each other!)
The TEAS was hard, but don't let that scare you...got to the ATI testing site and purchase their study guide, it was the most helpful, and also purchase the practice exam (you take it online) and it gives you a feel of what the actual test is going to be like. You get to take it twice, so I took it once before I studied for the test and then once after I studied (the day before I went in and took the test).
Concentrate on the Math and Science section, I didn't do great in those areas, as it's been 15 yrs since I took Chemistry! Also review the earth science section and vocabulary!
Repetition is what helped me, there were things in the study guide that I hadn't seen since High school...like Geom and Algebra.
Get the STUDY GUIDE! YOU WILL DO GREAT, just remember to BREATHE and concentrate on ONE question at a time.
BEST OF LUCK!!!!

Luckily for me math was like second nature so I didn't bother going through the math portion, however science was something else different. I felt that even going through the whole science portion two times in manual wasn't enough. I was fortunate enough to use this forum to help me study on important parts of the test.

Hello GirlDotson!! I am also studying for the TEAS test. I have been studying for the past 2 weeks. My exam date is April 19th. I too am feeling your pain!!If you want, shoot me an email. We could be study buddies lol! But, one of the best suggestions I can give you is try not to try to cram everything. You do not retain information if you study too many things at once. I learned this the first week of studying. If you plan on studying for a full day, take breaks!!! Go for a walk for a little if you can. It helps ease the stress. Drink lots of water and take a multi and vitamin c, especially if you are gunna be spending lots of nights doing this. You gotta take care of the body for the mind to work! It sounds silly, but all of this really does help. :)
It was very hard for me also to figure out where to start first. Opening that study guide for the first time can be very overwhelming!! Figure out what has been the hardest subject in the past for you and go from there by studying that the most.
I know that I am REALLY bad with math, so I have made flashcards for myself on things that I need to know. I use a lot of different colored pens and highlight the really important facts on each card. I have been using this kids site for math help. http://www.mathisfun.com/
They break everything down in the simplest forms with pictures too. It has been a big help!!! I am actually improving greatly from using this site. Repetition is key!! I take math quizzes everyday and whatever I do not get right, I go over the same kinds of problems until I get it right. I HATE MATH!!!
I bought the ATI book and that is a great guide, but make sure you buy the correct version. Also purchased the practice test. I took that before I studied a lot and will take the 2nd one before I take the actual test to see how I do. If I do not do that great, I might extend myself a week before I take the test, which I really do not want to do.
I also bought McGraw Hill's Nursing Entrance Exam book. I like this book because of the practice quizzes and the information on becoming a nurse, schooling, ect....
I recently purchased REA Nursing School Entrance Exam Flashcards book too from Amazon. This book covers TEAS, NET, NLN PAX-RN, PSB-RN & C-NET-RN.
Here is the link for this book if you are interested: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0738608947
I would highly recommend this book because there are A LOT of of practice questions with explanations. It also comes with a CD Rom disk that has the practice tests and a nice colorful human anatomy guide. This disk can also be used for future reference.
It really all depends on how you learn too. I know that my learning style is mostly visual, so seeing everything is the easiest way to remember things. If you are more of an audio learner, I suggest either recording yourself saying things or you can purchase the study guides in that format. If you are unsure of your learning style, DEF find out because knowing will really help decrease the amount you spend on studying. I would recommend taking an online quiz like this one:

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE TAKING THIS EXAM!!! WE CAN DO IT!!!
Oh my gosh everyone, thank you so much! I met with a tutor today (she's about 10 years younger than me lol!) and we worked through both the practice math tests in the teas v prep book. I was totally overwhelmed when I first started trying to figure teh problems out, but when she showed me how to do some of the problems I was having trouble with, I realized I know a lot more than I thought! She also suggested making my own flash cards with key science terms and information.
Bought me some big index cards, got my prep book and two others she lent me and I'm starting to make the cards tonight.
Thank you all again for sharing your ideas!

If your having trouble in math, start off with Pre-Algebra. Decimals, fractions, Place values, Dividing decimals, basic math rules.
You should know basic geometry. Start off with beginner word problems and know how to translate words to math. Learn ratio and proportions. Know what fractions stand for, like denominator is whole and numerator is part of the whole.
Then teas v study book should explain. If you
still need help
Theres Google!
Aaamath, mathisfun, etc
Once u know basic math, algebra becomes pretty easy

it's a really easy, basic test. No need to study
