Topical news of the moment = Ivanka and her underwhelming Women's Initiative.

Surprise: Ivanka Trump’s Signature Women’s Initiative Was a Massive Failure

Quote

While USAID launched at least 19 new women’s empowerment programs in 2019 alone, there were extensive failures in both the targeting of the money and the measurement of its impact. USAID was unable to say what proportion of funds went to the very poor, and women-owned and managed businesses. Shockingly, the agency couldn’t even define what actually constitutes a business owned and run by women, the GAO concluded.

I bet the grift went well, though.

If I was like so many others here, I'd be inclined to dismiss this story and throw shade at the poster simply because of the source of the article. LOL.

Except, it's true! I go to Huffington Post first every day for headlines because they always seem to have things first. And they occasionally also have good articles.

Maybe.  There are true stories on conservative leaning news sites as well, but those are often discredited simply because of the source.

I honestly don't expect you to read or accept any sources which discuss the epic and corrupt incompetence of the Trump's.  You rarely venture beyond Ben Shapiro so this is not something that I would expect you to read at all.  I'm so disinterested in a Trump supporter's perspective on the subject that I'm not even going to try to appease your concern about the source with another citation.

Oh well.

You're interested enough to seemingly be waiting by your keyboard to dish out the same, boring, blah insults at me.

Amusing, but sad.

I'm interested in the comments and threads on AN, not you.  I will agree that as a retiree in interior Alaska in the late Winter, I do spend too much time online.

Imagine the courage!

I loved this story. I have Chinese friends and I have seen how the older generation appears to be controlling, so I can just imagine what it's like in China.

Kudos to this auntie. Hope she keeps on trucking!

Anyone ever wonders about Palantir, Peter Thiel?

I have a feeling that he's going to get into big trouble soon and he will be taking down far more people than Trump ever could.

Ever since that Hulk Hogan business, I have been keeping an eye on him. Then there was that magazine he forced into bankruptcy and then he got involved in the NHS in the UK and I think something shady in Germany. He's a seriously dodgy character and always seems to be involved or on the fringe of something criminal.

I fully expect that his name will be surfacing re Garland and some Trump's business. All these unsavory characters seem to clump together.

Unless I am wrong, I get the feeling that people are having fits of joy re Matt Gaetz's predicament.

Can you imagine when Trump starts getting indicted for New York and Georgia plus the possibility of the rape charges and the Capitol Police and the defamation lawsuit, how people are going to feel?

I don't wish bad on anyone ,but man does he deserve some comeuppance! If Mitch McConnell, Bill Barr, Manuchin?, his weasel of a son in law and his kids gets drawn in as well, it will only be icing on the cake!

I think that both Manafort and Stone or Guilliaini, Bannon will flip re their troubles because they are weak, cowardly men!

From the Daily wire link above, Gov. De Santis quote:

Quote

” So, we did that, and what ended up happening was, you had 65 Publix in Palm Beach. Palm Beach is one of the biggest counties, one of the most elderly counties, we’ve done almost 75% of the seniors in Palm Beach, and the reason is because you have the strong retail footprint

Fact checking Gov. De Santis statement

Arrow points to Palm Beach County, median blue , on lower east coat  ranks  21st in 65 population  --darker the blue county color, = more > 65 % population.

DeSantis, Publix: No Connection To $100K Donation And COVID Vaccine Program

The announcement this month that the state is partnering with Publix on vaccination sites comes a month after the supermarket chain made four $25K donations to governor’s political committee.

Quote

Publix and Gov. Ron DeSantis' office denied Thursday there is any connection between the supermarket chain's $100,000 donation to the governor's political committee and their COVID-19 vaccination partnership.

On Jan. 5, DeSantis announced the program in which the state would allocate vaccine doses to Publix pharmacies, where they would be distributed via appointment. As of Thursday, the program included 105 stores in 12 counties.

A month earlier, Publix made four $25,000 donations to Friends of Ron DeSantis.
Prior to the $100,000 in contributions made in December, Publix had donated $50,000 to the governor’s political committee, the most recent of which was $25,000 given in January 2020....

...Publix was publicly criticized in 2018 after it donated $670,000 to DeSantis’ gubernatorial opponent Adam Putnam, who called himself a “proud NRA sellout” and opposed stricter state gun laws passed after the Parkland school shooting.

The Friends of Ron DeSantis committee has raised more than $50 million to date and over a $1 million this past November and December....

It's worthy of investigation that a campaign contributor is going to make millions off the vaccine and how they got to the front of the line.  That said they are one of the largest grocery store chains here and a good choice to participate in the rollout along with Walgreens and CVS.

The Republicans in Florida, like the Republicans elsewhere (like Georgia who lost the election and then trying to make the election "more fair" passed "reform") are not into deception.  They do what they do in broad daylight.  A good example is when voters wanted to give felons the right to vote they found a way around that because it was presumed they would vote Democrat.

DeSantis besides holding a press conference with his donor Publix, also had press conferences in his strong holds like The Villages.  He has not gone into minority neighborhoods and promoted his vaccine plan that I can see.  Perhaps though because studies show that white evangelicals and Republican males are the most vaccine hesitant perhaps this makes sense but to me it seems more political.

I have to give props to him vaccinating nursing homes and the rates of infection and illness there have dropped dramatically.  Big win.

The vaccine is available here now to all ages above 18 and demand is high.  Cases are on the rise and hospitalizations while very manageable remain steady.

He was criticized for vaccinating health care workers and the elderly first and not teachers, but overall he's done a good job with a mammoth undertaking.

But he's a Trump protege and that's all I need to know about him.  He acted irresponsibly during Covid and didn't promote good prevention policy, telling people not to worry, and now has to do an about-face and tell people to get vaccinated.  No wonder his base is not getting vaccinated at high rates.

Of course it is.  The point of the article seems be lost on you all.  Likely because no one read it.

60 Minutes heavily edited what DeSantis had to say.

How is telling people to get vaccinated doing a "about face"?    Florida hasn't been any worse off covid wise,  and did less damage to their economy then most.  Getting vaccinated was always going to be part of the plan.

I'm in the Tampa area doing vaccinations.   Yes, people are definitely wanting their vaccine!
