Wondering how the job market is looking for you? Where do you search for open positions? I am sure this varies by state (I am in California) but I would be curious to hear how things are looking throughout the United States as well as CA.
So far my impression is that jobs are limited and it is difficult to find an MD who is willing to supervise the 520 hours needed to obtain a furnishing number.
Anyone else having a different experience?

No problems with job searches in Texas. I did my final clinical hours with an FNP so no worries there.

There are slim pickings in IL for either RNs or APNs.

I know i was lucky to get an PNP job 90 minutes away from home but my pt population is slow to build up I replaced a md who had left, since I am worried about the job staying I went to Vista Print and ordered a bunch of business cards etc to leave out in the community since the Corp i work for only placed my picture in the paper once and failed to tell them who my collabrative md was so I am marketing myself for mine and thier benifit
PedsPNP - where in IL are you located? I live near Peoria and I know PNPs are a difficult sell here.
I'm actually just finishing up a post-MSN peds CNS (I currently practice as an adult health CNS) but I know its been rough getting clinicals done because there are so few peds APNs.
Another option: join ISAPN and network thru them. I've been a member for 5 years now and have been able to make connections there. I also know a few CNMs that are well-established that refer to PNPs.
benton i work for christopher rural health corp located out of christopher il

I took a first job as a NP in a large medical center in an inpatient role. The job was offered to me right away and I gladly accepted it, thinking it would be great! I was so excited and open to new possibilities, knowing I would work with other NPs and feel supported. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I am now left all alone with not even a month's worth of orientation behind my belt. Plus, no one wants to stay in this particular job. I am going back to staff nursing for now, and have been offered a job in a family practice part time. Know what you are getting into! Find a good preceptor who is willing to give you as much time as you need and have a back-up plan in place at all times.
NP's- give me some feedback!

I am in Nor-Cal too (SF Bay Area) and am finding it really hard to find that first NP job. I know I'm not the only one from my class having trouble, though people are slowly starting to get jobs now that it's been about 6 months. I ended up taking a per diem RN job just so I could pay rent, but I'm still looking for an NP position. It's really frustrating not being able to use my skills as an NP. That 6 month waiting period for prescriptive authority is a real barrier, as most jobs want a furnishing license as well as national certification. I've had a few interviews but nothing has come to fruition so far.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to get that first NP job? How do I distinguish myself as a new NP without any experience?
