To those Nurses who moved to Fl and needed to apply for a license b/c yours was from out of state, how hard was it. I am wondering how soon in advance I should apply, or if I can even apply before I move
Thanks!

I live in the UK have a Vermont Lic.
Applied to endorse about a month ago.
They have cashed the cheque but heard nothing.
So best to get in the application early

It's not that hard at all just slow and expensive. I would give it 3 to 6 months because they are nortoriously slow. When I moved here from NC 14 years ago, they issued a temporary license that I could use to work while awaiting the permanent one.

Tweety,
I am licensed in MO now...I sent in my Application to Florida last week. Confirmed delivery on 03/17/06...I am hoping to get my temp license by the 1st of April...does this sound like a reasonable timeframe...2 weeks?

I have been here as a traveler. I started early hearing that it was going to be slow- expecting 2-3 months. I had the temp in a week and the perm was in my hands in a month. They do FBI finger print checks, I dont know if having had them run prior for another state makes a difference but it might.

Thank you for these wonderful words of hope!
I called today and confirmed they logged my application on 03/20...She said they are working on March 7th today...so I guess it just depends on how many applications have been sent in the last two weeks.
I want to start working so badly :)

i answered you on another post...but yes, the pay stinks for all nurses in florida. you are looking at pay for a new grad lpn around $12-$14/hr in a hospital if they will even hire you. the 2 big hospital systems in orlando (florida hospital & ormc) do not hire lpn's anymore...in the rare event they will seek experienced only. health central does hire lpn's, but again your pay will be lower as a new grad lpn. some nursing homes pay up to $21/hr--but the question is, how good is the environement??? pediatric homecare is good they pay pretty well $15-$21 hr/ dependent upon the complexity and number of patients. children first and psa both hire new grads and offer training programs. good luck! i loved orlando but am doing better here in cali (even with the cost of living). it appears florida's wages are not equalized to the cost of living.

Good luck. It was so long ago I can't remember the time frame. But the temporary license came relatively quick. I had allowed myself a lot of time because I knew for six months I was moving.
Good luck!

basically you are paying for the weather. pay sucks down here but you have to way the options. bad thing is, cost of living is going up, home prices are going up, but our pay rate isn't. i wouldn't live anywhere else despite all of that.

I moved back almost two years ago. From the time I sent my app in to receive my license was just over two weeks. I was in shock I had been told several months. Guess I was lucky
