To the girl who was texting all through chemistry class....

Published

...and you're wondering why you're not doing well????? What could possibly be sooo important that it can't wait until break? Maybe the fascinating conversation went like this:

Girl A: Hey, what r u doing?

Girl B: I'm in chemistry. I hate this class. It's sooooo hard.

Girl A: I'm in such-and-such class. Just got test back. Got a C-.

Girl B: You're doing better than I am! Lol!

Girl A: (hugs)

Girl B: I can't wait until break. The girl next to me keeps giving me dirty looks.

Girl A: Tell me about it. My teacher just glared at me. *****

Girl B: Time for break. Gotta go.

Girl A: TTYL

I feel better...just needed to vent a little. I just wish the instructor had better control of the class...is it just me, or is rudeness the norm these days?

Virgo great perspective!

:banghead:i agree a cell phone in class is ok,its ow ya use it. on vibrate if a emergency comes up a few sec from the time you leave ya seat to the door will not make a diff.a call back in a few sec is ok. However most folks that text, they talk to ,and even if they dont answer the phone they still have a ringer on.a ringer is very distracting.common sense and courtesy is appreciated. Also folks have lost the idea of make sure ya bussiness is taken care of before ya leave.most folks with cell pones cant function without one.i turn mine off at dinner table even if i am out to eat.vibrate in class and if its important i go outside in hall.RESPECT most folks dont use it anymore.courtesy isnt taught anymore and the ones that are old enuff to know better if they still are rude, then they just dontcare.

Boy, is that the truth! I actually HATE my cell phone (and talking on the phone in general), so I leave mine in the car when we are at home. Certain friends say, "Where were you? I tried to call you!" Ummmm....I still have a phone at home---try that one next time?! I have a cell phone really for emergency use and 'taking care of business' while out and about with the kiddos. You won't find me just chit-chatting on mine! :lol2:

Same here even when not in class I dont want to hear my phone ringing so I set mine on one beep...no fancy music or singing for me. The only thing I LOVE about having a cell phone is not having to look for a quarter while trying not to think about who has been using the payphone...are they still a quarter?:)

The problem I have with Jammers is what if there's an emergency...I have children and if something happened to them There would be H$#L to pay if my cell phone was jammed...I keep my phone on silent on my desk or vibrate in my pocket...I'm not in the habit of texting but I dont care if anyone else does...Its their business and if they fail the class then there's one less person to compete with for a seat.

And what if a one of these jams a call for someone who just happens to be in the building for an unrelated purpose? Or a jammer is used in a mall movie theater and a physician who is in the mall shopping doesn't get a page? That's where I have a problem with things like this.

Assuming you can even find a pay phone any more.......

Assuming you can even find a pay phone any more.......

Oh, that's true---recently my husband and I went out to run an errand in his car and both he and I left our cell phones in my minivan :uhoh3: Of course, we needed to make a call....we looked for a pay phone and we FINALLY found one--but it was D I S G U S T I N G and it didn't work, anyway. Oh, and I think they are more than a quarter these days?

lol yall are killing me,thats the way folks think about phones now; they forgot what a lil effort it is to look for a phone.cell phones are very convienent, and for a job,its ok as long as the job doesnt interfer with the family time. Drs survived before cells, and would again.remember pagers . i carry one still and my cell phone is on all time on vibrate. cell phonesare great for certain reasons ,but the majority of folks and kids in paticular dont need them. It's a status, not a need.I have freinds that have their 8 yr old with one,and say i know where he is at all times.Well you should know where ya 8 yr old is anyway.Just my 4 cents in again. It's the disrepect of a few with cell phones that ruin it for those that need them.I wont even start on the idiots on the road texting or talkin and driving.

As a nurse educator, I realize this is an informal forum, however those of you planning on becoming teachers, please learn how to spell correctly. Set an example of excellence for your future students.

btw, I am totally against texting in class and all the other distractions (again, excepting emergencies). If you can't shut up, and MUST distract people, leave the classroom. The rest of the students pay just as much to be there as you do.

Nurse librarian, I don't think anyone mentioned anything about teaching except for me and I'm in the process of transitioning to become a nursing student. I do understand your comment and I may be guilty because I didn't proofread anything here like I usually would so if you are referring to me please let me know so I can edit the errors. Even though I didn't give much thought to teaching nurse education you are right in your comment, but I'm just speaking for myself...thanks

Nothing personal to anyone in the thread. I just read all 13 pages and don't remember to whom I was referring. I think the word that leaped out at me was assanine, which is actually spelled asinine. Just a small light bulb. :grad::stdnrsrck:

Oh no offense taken lol I saw that too but thought it was spelled like that on purpose, I thought the person who wrote it wanted to stress the first part of the word when they used it to describe my comments because we had a difference of opinion in the earlier posts...lol I still agree with you especially since I do love teaching.
