To the girl who was texting all through chemistry class....

...and you're wondering why you're not doing well????? What could possibly be sooo important that it can't wait until break? Maybe the fascinating conversation went like this:

Girl A: Hey, what r u doing?

Girl B: I'm in chemistry. I hate this class. It's sooooo hard.

Girl A: I'm in such-and-such class. Just got test back. Got a C-.

Girl B: You're doing better than I am! Lol!

Girl A: (hugs)

Girl B: I can't wait until break. The girl next to me keeps giving me dirty looks.

Girl A: Tell me about it. My teacher just glared at me. *****

Girl B: Time for break. Gotta go.

Girl A: TTYL

I feel better...just needed to vent a little. I just wish the instructor had better control of the class...is it just me, or is rudeness the norm these days?

Well, some won't be. LOL.

I have dealt with this all through school. Either they are texting or having extended conversations about last night's date, or the coming weekend, etc. Being an older student; most of the ones wasting their time were younger by quite a bit than me; I just gave them the old standby mommy look that I used to give my kids. Usually worked. When that failed, I would just turn around and ask them to either be quite or to go sit somewhere else; and I always asked loud enough so everyone heard. That usually gets the professor to pay attention, sometimes they are so wrapped up in giving the lecture that they don't always realize that not everyone is paying attention or that others are disrupting. As to worrying about them being the future nurses; well, first they have to pass the pre-reqs. Most of my micro class failed. Some of my co students would ask me to flub my tests, in order to lower the grade point. At that point I pulled out the fact that while I was taking notes and studying, they were playing around and that I had no intention to spoil my grade just to let them slide. It only gets harder. Once accepted into nursing school, if you fall below a certain % on a test; well, you are out period. Talk with your professor. Everyone has the right to the education they are paying for.

I think if I ever end up geting my masters and teaching (which i plan on) I'm gonna have a rule that every single person has to put their cell phone on their desk in front of them quote]

If I ever teach I will definitely have some kind of rule regarding being "present" in class or just being there. I wonder if you could mark someone absent if they're obviously not paying attention?

Good Luck with that....lemme know how that works out for ya...
