To Filipino Nurses in NEW ZEALAND? Have questions please..

Published

Good day!

I am considering trying my luck as a nurse in New Zealand.

Can anyone here help me and tell me what to expect in the 2-3months competency assessment? Is it really like attending formal school where you have lectures, exams, reports? Anyone ever failed that??

How long does it take to get a working visa after registering with NCNZ, provided of course one passed the assessment? How long does it take to get permanent residency?

How do I find a good consulting agency that can help me with the processing? Or dont I need one anymore?

I also would appreciate it if Filipino Nurses can share their experiences in NZ. Was the transition hard? How do you like the weather?

Any practical tips about starting my application to work as a nurse there besides looking at the NCNZ website?

Thanks a lot in advance!

hi. i just want to ask - do they require me to be a registered nurse here in the phils. before i can apply for their CAP program? i don't plan on taking the local board exams, since I'm planning to work in the US, but due to retrogression...i'm interested in aquiring as much knowledge and skills that i can while waiting. i can't do that here in the phils. since as i've mentioned i don't plan on taking the local board. thank you so much!

Yes , you need to be a Registered RN in the Philippines before you can register for the CAP program. And it would help if you have clinical work experience.

good day to all. anyone kind enough to explain the whole process of authentication of documents for new zealand? thanks very much

to retsimnaeb: try reading the registration form for overseas registered nurse from the nursing council website . it indicates the outline for authentication. if you have time read http://www.nurse2nz.blogspot.com - you can get some tips regarding the steps for registration as a nurse in new zealand. good luck!

hello, anyone there who could give me some consulting firms so that i could inquire about processing to new zealand?

is it true that NOW they already require the nurses to have hospital experience?

i would greatly appreciate any help from you guys, thanks!!!!!

Since you're an NCLEX passer (esp. if you have a current US license), the Nursing Council might assess your qualifications differently (they might even waive the completion of competency programme for you ).

You can inquire about registration and download forms here www.nursingcouncil.org.nz/reg.html for assessment. I believe that you can apply directly to hospitals once you have the license. A job offer and license are required for the work permit/visa.[/quote

you can not use your nclex license in lieu of IELTS. you need IELTS band 7.0 . Having an nclex license does not mean anything when you register with the nursing council of new zealand. The required competency assessment program serves an introduction to nursing policies and guidelines of new zealand...

I agree, in order to be considered for the CAP here, you need at least 6 mos clinical experience and still working while processing for your Enrollment here. THere are a lot of schools here for competency. You can check the Nursing council website. To give you a rough idea how much the schooling would cost around 200kPHP - School. 150K- allowance. 50-70K round trip ticket depends on the season. So max 500K php. Depende din minsan kung magkano ang hinihingi ng mga agency dyan sa pinas.

Hope this helps.

We were catered by a consultancy firm in Cebu City. Yes you need at least 6 mos clinical experience and still working while your application is still on the process. We paid everything, see my posting on this thread.

We also paid the agency for the processing. It took us 11 mos to get here. *NZ's policy is getting difficult yearly so better check for the changes often.

Hope that helps.

Overseas nurses applying for registration as registered nurses must have:

  • registration with an overseas regulatory authority AND
  • EITHER an overseas qualification equivalent to a New Zealand nursing qualification purpose of assessing competencies for the registered nurse scope of practice.
  • OR have successfully completed a programme approved by the Council for the purpose of assessing competencies for the registered nurse scope of practice.

It didnt say number of years experience required.

My application got delicned by the NZNC saying my academic backgroud didn't match the scope of nursing practice in NZ. Weird part is I have several classmates who's applications got approved, and to think they don't have any post nursing experience yet whereas I have several already, and again, to think that i have already passed my NCLEX whereas they don't have it yet.

In conclusion, I would say that the NZNC's way of evaluating an application is very arbitrary. So those planning to go to NZ, be careful. You might have the money, paid your agency and completed all the required documents already only to find out in the end that your application is declined by the NZNC.

Good day people! I would like to ask anyone if there are sure job offers in new zealand after going on an eight-week study? is it hard to find a job there for nurses? i am considering of going with a student visa but still quite hesitant because there are some rumors that some nurses are getting unemployed because the number of filipino nurses is increasing. please help me decide. :) my ielts will expire by april 2008 so i have a little time to decide. soo confused. thank you... God bless! :)
