TIPS/Info for passing NCLEX

Published

Hi,

To everyone who passed recent nclex-rn, can you please share what helped you best (cd's, printed materials, etc..) ? Where to focus? and how did you study/prepare?

thanks... this will help a lot of us who are scheduled to take the exams soon

I just took RN nclex and failed it I am so upset saunders 2005? was that what u used. i just signed up for kaplan review I pray I pass next time help

oh I wish i had read your message before i bombed my exam wed that is so true I should have took kaplan, but trying to be chaep and so now I have to repay for nclex, kaplan and the embarrssment that comes with all of this.

I passed NCLEX the first time this Monday. Here is what I did and would recommend: I took a review of Nclex in a local hospital ( 150 $) which was O.k. but I would say it didn't contribute too much to passing Nclex. I didn't take any Kaplain or other related commercialized reviews because you can do it yourself by reviewing Nclex books and practice questions until you get sick of them. I did about 5,000 + questions over a 2 month period. I used Saunders 2005 which is an excellent source book. After reviewing Saunders I practiced Mosby's RN review book and CDs. The Nclex egzam was just like Mosby's style - hard and tricky. But if you do Mosby's thoroughly, you won't be surprised at the type of questions on the Nclex egzam. I believe there is no other way around- practice questions, read rationale carefully. Nobody else can prepare for it otherwise. My computer shut off after 75 questions and felt like I failed. I had lots of priority questions, and whom to assess first, and how to delegate. And Maslow's hierarchy and ABC don't apply to much, that would be too easy.

I wish everybody good luck and you can definetely do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tks I have been doing what suzanne told me and I feel better sorry just replying to you

Hey Paula. I borrowed every CD for every book that I could possibly borrow and just studied them. The ones I liked best were the ones that gave you instantly if you were right or wrong, if I got it wrong I would sit and figure out why I got it wrong. Also I didn't apply any of the stuff I learned as a GN from the hospital I work at. I found that at the place I work at would pretty much fail the boards if tested. Take a deep breath and try to stay as relaxed as possible.

Good Luck!

Hello! I'm 21 y/o a BSN graduate from the Philippines (Manila), right now i'm here in california and planning to take the NCLEX.... i submitted my documents and application last month to the BON, so most likely i'll be getting my ATT next year...

As a foreign trained nurse, you will be much further ahead using the Saunder's Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN.

Where in CA are you?

hi! newbie here. :D i'll be taking the exam in april. i was just wondering if you guys can share your thoughts about NSCBN's online review course. would enrolling in it be an advantage? they're the ones who made the nclex right? is it better than saunders or davis? any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

I have been using the NCBSN website, along with Saunders and Kaplan. I like the variety of questions that I get that way. I think the NCBSN course is OK, and I feel like the questions on there are more difficult than elsewhere. Sometimes the answers come outta nowhere to me, and I think "what??". But I find myself getting better at them. The course also provides outlines of material, just as Saunders does. I think it's more or less worth it. But I too would like to know what others opinions are of the NCBSN course.

I only recommend the Saunder's Review book, I have had excellent results with those that I have helped pass the exam. Not about to change. And no reason to spend all of the money.

I'm a Canadian nurse...I passed the NCLEX on my 2nd try....my best advice is do lots and lots and lots of different questions...just keep practicing with questions....study hard...eat well, sleep well, excersise, think positively and you will pass.
