PCCN Review Information Needed Please
I took the PCCN exam just last July and thankfully I passed. I tried using the CCRN reviewers but it tends to get confusing since the focus of CCRN is different to that of the PCCN. I also tried using the AACN's progressive care book but it didn't really help me. What I used was David Woodruff's PCCN audio review and the CD-ROM from AACN. Listening over and over to the CDs really helped. EDIT: I just checked out ebay and they're selling David Woodruff's PCCN review. :)

New nurse scared to talk to doctors!!
i'm so glad we have this thread! i, too, am a new RN. i started working just last month and like most of new RNs, i'm having a hard time talking to physicians especially when taking phone orders. one time, i had to actually hand the phone over to my preceptor because i was just too scared to listen and remember what the doctor was saying.

Just some general NCLEX questions
i graduated dec 15 and took the exam feb 27. if i had to do it all over again, i would take it 2 weeks earlier. i read somewhere that it's best to schedule the exam within 2 months after graduation. just got my results today (mar 1)!!!

My test stopped at 75
took my exam today and i stopped at 75. i felt absolutely horrendous. to all those who took the exam: how was your test? did you get all priority questions in the end? my classmate said if you get questions with the bold words like essential, best, most, first, etc., you're on the right track. the thing is, when i got those questions in the middle of the exam, after a while, i get questions which do not have those bold words. i kept thinking i'm doing worse. was it the same with you guys? also i kept getting questions about client teaching: what to include and what needs further teaching. is this good or bad?

Kaplan or NCSBN learning extension?
I emailed the NCSBN about the ARCE and RACE situation and here's the reply: From the Instructor, in regards to NCLEX and the RACE/ARCE topic: My advice is to read the question closely if it is about rescue when a fire. If you look at PRC and RACE the first steps are essentially the same - protect the client either by rescue or removal. For ARCE, if they tell you the alarm is ‘down the hall’ this is a clue to protect the patient first. The second point is that with conflicting protocols such as these I think will unlikely be a specific test question on the NCLEX. What you would more likely be asked is ‘which patient would you remove first?’ Think in terms of disaster and that the most likely to survive are attended to first and those least likely to survive would be last. I hope this has answered your question fully. If not please feel free to contact me. Warmest regards, Instructor they also told me that they're going to revise the module and include RACE instead of ARCE.

2nd Degree Coursers
^ ^ i agree. my school charges $267 per credit for international students. ouch. i'm a nursing-as-a-second-degree student too. i just graduated last december 2005. my first degree is physical therapy. when i came here, little did i know that the process of taking the PT boards will take a year or two. i didnt have that much time so i opted to change my status to student visa and the rest, they say, is history.

what's cpt anyway? when do you do it and what does it entail? i'm afraid i'm only familiar with opt. may i suggest you just go ahead with opt instead of cpt? the opt takes about a year and the process of converting from student's visa to immigrant visa takes a long time, from a year to a year and a half. btw what state are you in? i'm in illinois.

TIPS/Info for passing NCLEX
hi! newbie here. i'll be taking the exam in april. i was just wondering if you guys can share your thoughts about NSCBN's online review course. would enrolling in it be an advantage? they're the ones who made the nclex right? is it better than saunders or davis? any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

pinay studying nursing as 2nd degree in us
hi nrswnabee and pinayfl! i'm also in the same boat as you are: international student, second degree taker, and a filipina. i just graduated last december (yay for me!) and currently in the process of taking the nclex (gulp!). good luck with all your endeavors! to nrswnabee: you don't have to take cgfns. thank god for that. i heard it's even harder than nclex. all you need is to pass nclex and to find a hospital willing to sponsor you. btw some colleges/universities are offering msn completion options if you have a bs degree in another field. the question is will they allow foreign degrees to be eligible for this option? i hope so. i'm not gonna lose sleep over this though. let me pass nclex first.
