Timeline for endorsing RN license to CA

U.S.A. California

Published

I am interested to hear anyones experience in endorsing their license into CA. I used the online endorsement as well as the livescan fingerprinting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Thank you for answering!

My college didn't require that. I took a 3 credit English writing class and a 3 credit literature class. I'm just hoping that can count at this point.

Hi there! I am glad I'm not the only one here who freaked out about the "oral

communication" credit. I went to nursing school in Texas and all that was required was the 3 credit English course, and 3 credit Literature course. Since it is nearly impossible to get ahold of anyone there, can you please update on how this turns out?

I am sort of in the same boat here having to deal with 2 different BON's back to back for my RN license. Passed the NCLEX over 2 weeks ago, still sitting here waiting on Colorado to post my license so I can even begin the process of applying to CA. We will be moving there at the end of May, and the time crunch is killing me right now after reading all of these postings...ugh!

You will NOT be licensed without the proper courses.

I just got a letter that I am missing oral/written communication and social science. I minored in history, took freshman writing seminar as well as several upper level writing courses, took world music and psychology, and many of my nursing classes had huge oral presentation components. I am gathering course descriptions and syllabi and letters from faculty to argue this. I have a bachelor's in music performance with a minor in history, a master's in music performance and literature, as well as a bachelors of science in nursing.

I have heard that individual evaluators can be more particular than others but I am hoping from reading past threads that with a little explanation I can confirm that I have met these requirements. Very frustrated and anxious as I do NOT want to have to take more courses for a degree that I already have!

Really I think the whole thing is absurd as we have all passed the NCLEX and have been working as RNs with bachelor's degrees!

^Ouch. Usually they are looking for a class that was solely based on Oral Communication. See below. It truely does suck we have to go through so much with BON's.

What are you going to tell Stanford? Maybe they will extend the offer once the class is done.

I endorsed my license from OH to CA and got my license posted today. I'm also an international graduate and I wanted to share my timeline.

Nov. 1,2016- Sent application form with picture, check to BRN and sent my school (international) the "request for transcript" form along with the "breakdown of educational program for international nursing programs" (the school sent it to BRN on Nov. 24,2016), (also sent my Live Scan within this week)

Nov. 25,2016- Sent verification of license (Nursys) and paid $30

Nov. 28,2016- Breeze account showed "pending missing education history"

2nd week of December- "pending missing education history" gone, replaced by "pending/open"

January 9, 2017- checked Breeze account and saw my status disappeared

January 12, 2017- received letter stating my school needed to send BRN my cases and academic calendar of the whole year and I was required to send my SSN, Diploma, and RLE book

February 2, 2017- sent my requirements to BRN

February 21, 2017- school sent my cases and academic calendar to BRN

*checked my breeze, status is still not there*

March 13,2017- first time attempting to call BRN, took me 12 times of "heavy call volume" then hanging up and finally got through, spoke to the lady and stated she will forward me to my evaluator since they don't know if all my needed requirement from the letter received on Jan 12 is complete. Left voicemail to my evaluator twice (i called again late afternoon to check if evaluator is on his desk at that time) *In the voicemail, evaluator stated he will get back to the calls and reply to them within 3-5 business days*

*waited 3-5 business days, no calls/e-mails received from evaluator (what did i expect?)*

*checked breeze, status still not there*

March 20,2017- called BRN again, took me 25 times of heavy call volume and finally got through, pending time to actually talk to somebody was 55 minutes (wheew), explained my situation that I needed to know if my papers have been received and again, forwarded to my evaluator, only to be sent to voicemail again.

At the end of the day, checked my breeze account and voila! License number is there! WOOOOOO! FINALLY. Does anyone know how long till I get my actual license card? Thank you in advance!

Congrats!! Do you mind me asking which country you are from?

Hey Laura, According to one of the people at the BRN, two english courses should qualify you. Though to be honest, every person I talked to had a different answer. This person seemed reliable though, because when I asked her what counts as substitute course work she said "Let me check my list" and then read a bunch of classes to me. If both of your classes say ENG on the transcript, you should be fine. My issue was that I did my original degree in classical music performance and european history, so all of my english and writing courses look different on my transcripts. Mine all say FWS for freshman writing seminar or HIS W for writing intensive history coursework.

Good luck!

My license was just posted!!!

The last time I called was last week to check on this "communication" requirement. She basically told me to wait until my processing time and they might say i don't meet the requirement, so I was freaking out. I checked today and it's up!

Here's my final timeline for endorsement:

-Sent app on breeze online on 2/3/2017 + requested fingerprint card + Nursys verification

-Received fingerprint card one 2/8

-BSN transcript sent on 2/14

-Got fingerprints done at the local police station on 2/16 (I only submitted one card)

-Another transcript for a summer class was sent on 2/22

-Submitted verification form on 3/1

-Called on 3/3 freaking out asking about this "oral comm" requirement 100x and noone helped

-Called 3/20 to ask about the status of my app materials and if they had received them all. She said they had received everything and was just a waiting game

-My processing time starts on week of 3/27, checked my online breeze on 3/30 and my license is up!

Laura,

Thank you for the update! Gave me a little relief. I applied online March 18th, and sent everything off overnight on the 21st. Hopefully my experience will move as smoothly as yours :) Congrats!

I applied Feb 10th online.

Last Friday I rec'd a fingerprint rejection letter. It was dated March 16th but I got it March 24th. I sent another fingerprint card on 3/28.

On Monday 3/27, my status disappeared from Breeze. What does that mean?

My license just posted, even with all of my weird course substitutions! Yay! So now we know that as long as you've taken courses similar to those required, you can still get licensed! =D
