Timeline for endorsing RN license to CA

U.S.A. California

I am interested to hear anyones experience in endorsing their license into CA. I used the online endorsement as well as the livescan fingerprinting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hi,

I have started the process to endorse my CA license from NJ. Applied online today and sent my fingerprints overnight since I can't do live scan from here. I am an international nurse, anyone has ever tried to endorse to CA using their documents from CGFNS? If so, how did you go about it?

Thanks

I submitted my licensure by endorsement application online on 17 December from North Carolina to California. I received my California temporary license & number on BreEZe today. It took 45 days. I highly suggest using the staff workers at the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) that oversee all of the licensing boards in California as a resource. I emailed their department inquiring about my application status and a nice lady got back to me the next day via email and looked into my case over at the CBRN. The CBRN had misplaced my live scan results and her inquiry, I guess, forced them to look into it immediately. She emailed me again the following day just following up and told me that the board had found my live scan results. That was on the 25th of January and I got my Temp as I stated above on 1 February.

Okay guys, hear me out please, I have some questions!

I graduated with a BSN and I am licensed in MA. I am now about to graduate from a Psych NP program and I have always wanted to move to California, so I started looking into this process. I have to say, when I came across this thread, I was horrified. My process with the MA BON was seamless - I received my ATT literally a month after I graduated, and received my license 6 days after taking the NCLEX. I cannot believe that there is such an inefficient process in a board for a state like CA. So I have to endorse my license from MA to California, in the meantime graduate and take my psych NP boards and then apply for an advanced practice license in California (assuming that my RN license is in by this point). Knowing that I have to deal with this board office back to back within a 6 month period is very anxiety provoking.

So first of all, the instructions are super unclear. But here is my timeline so far:

I sent in the online application and payment through Breeze on 2/3/2017. I also requested a fingerprint card that day and surprisingly it arrived in Boston 5 days later. I submit my Nursys verification on 2/3. I requested my BSN transcripts on 2/14 and it was sent that same day. I also had to request a transcript from a community college where I took micro, and that was sent on 2/22. I got my fingerprints done at the local police station on 2/16 and submit them that same day, but I only did one card because they were $30 each and I'm already broke from this whole process. So far, my application just says "Pending: Open." I've tried to call them to make sure they received my transcripts and fingerprints, but no luck so far. So here are my questions:

1) I never sent in that "online licensure by endorsement applicant identification form", which has the 2-2 photo, in paper because we were asked to upload it online with the application. Was I supposed to send this in by to their office as well? The website says "You must submit a completed Online Licensure by Endorsement Applicant Identification Form and 2"x2" photograph. You will have the opportunity to upload this form as an attachment when submitting the online application." This makes it seem like it only has to be uploaded.

2) I only sent in 1 fingerprint card and now I am regretting it. I've been reading that they can get rejected. Should I have sent more cards in?

3) Does anyone have a number with an actual person that will pick up to check the status of my application? I want to make sure they received my transcripts, Nursys, and see what's going on with the fingerprints.

4) I will be in SF for a job interview on april 12-16, should I do livescan while I'm down there?

5) Also, WHAT IS THIS WHOLE THING ABOUT AN ORAL COMMUNICATION CLASS? This is the first time I've heard of this....I am mind blown. Is this true? I never took a public speaking class. All my classes are core, prereqs, and nursing.

This is very stressful. I hate the fact that you can't get in touch with anyone. I'm a nurse corps scholar, so I have a 6 month window to sign for a job. I don't want to delay this process in any way so I can start my NP license as soon as I graduate - the longer this takes the less time I have to actually find a job.

Ok, first off we all feel your pain. Second, take a deep breath.

So, to answer some of your questions.

1. I sent in the ID form via mail even though I uploaded the form as well.

2. I would go ahead and get the live scan done when you are in SF just in case. I know it may turn out to be redundant and cost you $70, but better be safe than sorry.

3. I never had success getting anyone on the phone or an email response from the board of nursing. I emailed and called numbers for the California Department of Consumer Affairs, since they oversee all of the licensing boards in California, and they were actually very helpful. A lady emailed me back in 24 hours from their office and was able to get a hold of the board and get a status check on my application. I was able to see what items were received by the board and what items were still pending. She actually followed up with me several times over the course of 2 weeks and even offered to hand deliver my school transcripts for me since her office is right next to the Board of Nursing building in Sacramento. Here is the generic email I initially used for the DCA: [email protected]

I would personalize your email and mention that you are a nurse corps scholar and have a very tight deadline to get licensed and you have tried "Many" times to email/call etc the board of nursing with no success. That is what I did and I got a quick response as I stated above.

4. Covered it in number 2 above.

5. Your university didn't require a Speech class or "oral communication" as part of your general education requirements?? Most if not all major universities require this as part of the GER.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for answering!

My college didn't require that. I took a 3 credit English writing class and a 3 credit literature class. I'm just hoping that can count at this point.

Hi Everyone!

Does anyone know how long it takes for the board to process the application once they are "currently processing?" Is the 10-12 weeks an estimate from when you submit your application or an estimate from when they start processing? I am applying for endorsement from Pennsylvania and I have a job lined up at UCSF that is supposed to start May 8th. I submitted my application on 1/20.

Thanks!

Do UCSF hire without RN license? I am asking because I am also interested in working there. Which unit will you be working in?

I assume it is on a case by case basis, but I applied with a PA license to the pediatric cardiac transitional care unit. I currently work on a pediatric cardiac transitional care unit in Pennsylvania that does heart transplants. The unit that hired me is starting a transplant program so it may have just been the perfect combination of experience? Incidentally, I was also given an offer at Lucile Packard Children's at Stanford in the Peds CVICU with a pending CA license. It doesn't hurt to try!

Once the page opens into the google results under CA BON click on processing times.

As in unlicensed New grad? probably not.

Wolf, thanks for the resource.... That is where I got the 10-12 weeks. My question is does that time frame start once the check is cashed or from when the application was sent?

I believe the paged says when the board received it. Probably the check cashing date. Think about it your mailing date would not matter. Mailing in the state of CA on 1-2-2017 vs mailing from VT on 1-2-2017 would not arrive the same day.

Google changed the processing time link appearance from my first post. .

Here it is again for others.
