Timeline for endorsing RN license to CA

U.S.A. California

Published

I am interested to hear anyones experience in endorsing their license into CA. I used the online endorsement as well as the livescan fingerprinting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Do we only have to fill where it says X on fingerprint card?

What is ORI ? It doesnt have an X, so can I leave it blank?

And "aliases" box has an X in it, but I have never had any other name at all. Do I leave it blank or just write - or something?

I just wanted to share my journey although i feel it has not even truly started. I flew to LA from FL 2/16/16 because that was the most affordable flight. I also went the Livescan route because i was told that this would expedite the process of endorsement. I did my Live scan the same day and overnighted my application.

My transcripts(2) were mailed the week before and arrived (1) 2/11 and (2) 2/17.

I completed the verification 2/9.

It is now 3/4/16 and i have no update on my permanent or temporary license. I am more concerned about the temporary because the timeline says 4-6 weeks. I am currently on week 3 and my check has not even been cashed. I have called to check on the status and no one can tell me anything. If they werent going to grant me the temporary license within the time frame, they shouldnt have taken my money.

That's California for you. It took me 4 months to get my license endorsed from Texas.

Are you doing a LiveScan or an actual fingerprint card?

I honestly can't remember but I do think there was something like that left blank on my live scan form. The place where you are doing your fingerprint card should know if that's something that can be left blank or not.

Also, just a word of advice, since I see you have been on the BON slow boat for a while... If you want your app processed faster (especially if you are requesting a temp license) and you can't afford to hand walk it in to Sacramento, then pay to have it overnighted to the street address. I would not send it regular mail to the PO BOX. I sent one to the PO Box and even though it was certified as delivered, they never got it. I waited 5 weeks and finally drove in and turned in a new app. They cashed that check and issued my temp license within a week. Not sure whatever happened to the other app.

Actual hard card.

How can you see the status of your application? I'm still waiting for my fingerprint card to arrive that I requested almost a month ago.

You can't see the status on the Breeze website until you have turned in the application and they have cashed your check.

Okay, I am seeking some advice.

My plan is to move to California late July/early August and hopefully have a job secured that will start around that time. I have already submitted all my transcripts, but I am still waiting for my fingerprint card that I requested 2/22 (I requested another one about a week and a half ago). Since I'm looking at about 4-5 months, should I go ahead and apply for a temporary license as well, or take the risk of hoping my permanent one will be ready in time?

I have everything else ready to go in terms of application and check, and am waiting to do the NURSYS verification once I have actually mailed everything in.

Thanks!

I am pretty sure a temporary license is contingent on the fingerprint/background check clearing and NURSYS verification is done. You must turn in the copy of the livescan or fingerprint card with your application for endorsement with a temporary license so you can't do one without the other.

Others on this forum have said they've just used the fingerprint cards at their local fingerprinting place. I think the "hard card" is standard. Any numbers/info that needs to be filled in should be on the livescan form on the website. Did you call to request the form or submit a request online? I would follow up with a call. If you start calling at 7:55 AM pacific time over and over you can usually get someone.

Are you going to try with a travel nurse agency? Since you have experience that may be the best way to go at least at first. Just a heads up I'm having a hard time getting interviews with my "temporary license." One place I have an interview with on Monday called me today and asked me what it meant that my license was temporary. I don't think they really encounter them that much here so it takes some extra explaining on your cover letters. One person thought it meant the same as the interim permit that is given to new grads who haven't yet passed NCLEX. :/

Happyful -- or anyone else that can help,

Question about the Breeze account? I sent in my application and live scan on 3/4. I created a Breeze account, but how does my application and my breeze account end up linking up? Do they search my name/information, and it links up that way?

When you're logged in, I think you click on update profile and then at the bottom add licenses and follow the steps. If your check has been cashed then you should have a pending application in the system that you can link with your breeze. You may also get an email, but for me the email came a few days after mine had already actually popped up on breeze.
