Time to do the right thing again. (Cheater selling EC test answers...)

Published

We've been here before. I posted this sort of thing once before and several people from here queried EC and ebay about it, and the items were pulled. (Thank you!!!)

This is an even more brazen individual than that last one. Multiple items and somehow has the auctions going until March or April (didn't know you could do that!). When you look at these item descriptions, if you have any sense of academic integrity, you are going to gag. I think it must be worse for us EC alums and students.

So I am asking again for some strength in numbers.

Here is the URL for complaining to ebay: http://pages.ebay.com/help/contact_inline/index.html

Here is the phone number for complaining to Excelsior College: 1-888-647-2388. School of nursing is ext 1314. Test administration is ext 16. I think those two cover it.

Here are the item numbers for the ebay items.

5948549942

4511070698

4511075930

4511078375

5942053561

5942057144

5942059283

5942066379

5942100840

You can just look up one, then click on "view seller's other items," and you will get these (assuming we haven't already succeeded!) and any others that are subsequently listed.

Please complain. This kind of crime proliferates when we do nothing because we think it doesn't affect us personally. But cheating demeans the rep of our school, and therefore our credential, and us as nurses who graduated from Excelsior College through our own hard work.

Go get 'em!

And thanks.

Well, it does kind of make me mad that I study and work like a dog to make B's and some yahoo can memorize test answers and probably make an A...come to think of it I'd like to string this buzzard up!

I busted this same person last week. Unfortunately EC/EBay only took that one item off and didn't bother to look to see if they were selling other items.

Here is a copy and paste from one of the items:

This auction is for STUDY GUIDES with

REAL, ACTUAL TEST QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS to

Nursing Concepts 1-7 exam

Can't get any more illegal than that.

CSLee...... way to go for donating your materials. I did the same thing, even my lab supplies that I practiced with. The only thing I asked the people I gave it all to was that they passed it on (for free) to someone else when they were finished with it.

I know in the past people have sold their CPNE study guides on EBay for big bucks. Pathetic, since we get them for FREE.

Greetings EC alumni, I reported the only current auction to ebay.. item number 5950097044.

The seller is STILL claiming to be selling the REAL Q & A to Excelsior test. UGH, it annoys me greatly. The only link I found on ebay to report was a window, which would only accept a number. I am going to search a place to send this:

Dear Ebay,

The seller is claiming to sell protected information. They claim to be selling the REAL ACTUAL Q & A from Excelsior College EXAMS. This is so wrong, wrong, wrong. It is against the Excelsior College Honesty Policy, INFRINGING on the College copywrite rights, and it is encouraging unethical behavior. This should be stopped, and they should be penalized for doing so. I will be informing Excelsior College that EBAY is allowing this auction. Please STOP being a venue for illegal copywritten exams. If the seller admits they are not really the Actual Real exams, then, it still should be stopped for false advertising.

Sincerely XXX

THANKS SPAZZY, for alerting us to these. ( I'm taking NC3 in 8 days! Wheeee! Doing it the old fashioned honest way. STUDYING! )

Good job Sparkle! (And actually Chris is the one who alerted you all..... she is a natural born narc.) Let us know if you hear anything back. I usually just get something from EC saying thank you for letting them know, and then the auction disappears.

Best of luck on NC3! :)

If I knew that I could use this to study, NOT MEMORIZE, I would buy it.

1st of all, EC or any other school, should not use the same tests. Therefore, you can't memorize to learn if the exams are different.

2nd of all, who in the world would memorize a test bought on Ebay, and actually expect it to be a real thing?

and my last comment, who in their right mind would actually think cheating on test is going to help them in the long run? I'd rather study my butt off, learn the material, and know that I know it for later recall.

I hope you all can see my point of view on this, as I am not trying to start a debate. I just am saying I wouldn't trust this as real anyway, and if it was, the EC needs to change their tests up!!!!

ty

I forwarded the original information to EC.

I don't know what will come of this but I noted to the school I hoped someone would monitor complaints of this type. I think EC knows this but really needs people to report when they see it each and every time.

I just sent EC all the links that Rudolph person has to the stuff she's selling. Got a "thank you" e-mail reply as usual. I never hear what happens, but periodically I check that seller's stuff. If it's gone I give us all a big ol' high 5. :)

Excelsior College has many, many (like, 17,000) students, and consequently cannot afford to use test items that are not "tried and true." Can you imagine dealing with even 1,000 students objecting to just one question? So they have a test bank of questions that have been tested and tested, to be sure that they are understood to mean what they are supposed to mean, so that students can trust that their scores accurately reflect their accomplishment.

It was not uncommon in my former brick-and-mortar school for as many as 10-12 percent of the questions on any one test to be thrown out. The staff admitted they often wrote their exams the night before they were administered. I'm pretty sure they were not run through any sort of quality check. Can you imagine failing your exams because the questions were bad?

2nd of all, who in the world would memorize a test bought on Ebay, and actually expect it to be a real thing?
People do. How do you know it isn't? People are dishonest, lack of integrity is almost a cultural norm these days. Sad, but true.

and my last comment, who in their right mind would actually think cheating on test is going to help them in the long run? I'd rather study my butt off, learn the material, and know that I know it for later recall.
You understand the value of hard work, and you have integrity. That's a rare commodity. You'll make a great nurse.

This person is more subtle....they sold something nclex and to get the bids up higher (same thing as selling it) she added this to her auction!

"PLUS, for free, I'll include my own tried-and-true way I aced every nursing exam (I attended Excelsior College) and how I prepared for the NCLEX (I passed easily, the first time)."

My goodness there are people all over ebay selling these! You missed a bunch of other people Chris that have been selling these for years on ebay!

They are selling their notes. Let's get them all!

I have never had a problem with people selling their notes, or reselling their books. Why should I, there's nothing wrong with it!

I do take issue with individuals who sell "actual test items and answers."

That's what this thread is about......

If you want to make a personal attack, this is not the place.

However, I did include a page full of time tested study skills and tips. My personal methods. The individual wrote and thanked me. In turn, I encouraged them to join this board, where I post this stuff regularly.

Please let ebay and Excelsior College know what I did. They know who I am and what I sold. They had no problem with it.

They do, however, take issue with selling property of Excelsior College (i.e., "actual test items and answers."
