Hello all! It's a little early, but I wanted to make a new thread for all those applying this summer for TCC's Spring program! I dropped off my application this past Tuesday and am already ready for October 15th to hurry up and get here, lol!
Hi everyone,
I'm a sophomore TCC student in the Social Science degree program. Recently, I've felt like my current degree is not where my heart is and that nursing is my calling. I am only 25 credits shy of completing my Social Science degree program, so I am a little apprehensive of applying to the nursing program. I am scared that I will take necessary co-req courses then get denied into the program. I really do feel like nursing is my calling though, and I have a lot of questions about what I need to do in order to gain acceptance in the program. I read through this thread and I saw that a majority of you guys were accepted into the program so I was wondering if you could answer these questions for me.
- Should I take a chemistry class or BIO 150 for the co-req requirement?
- Is it important to have if not all, but at least a majority, of the co-req classes completed prior to applying?
- As long as I maintain high grades in my co-req courses and score well on the HESI, do I have a decent shot?
- What other steps can I take to ensure I have an appealing application?
- Is it crucial to take at least A&P 1 before taking the HESI?
Currently, the only courses I have taken at TCC that are relevant to the nursing co-reqs are ENG 111 (A) and ENG 112 (B). I was planning on taking BIO 150 this upcoming spring, as well as the SDV class and PSY 201. I'm curious if I should go ahead and plan on taking all the other co-req's before applying though.
Thank you for any information or advice! And congrats to all the future RN's who recently were accepted :-)

I would complete A&P and micro before applying. Also, I would only take 1 science/lab per semester unless you have previous experience in the course. Generally, the science w/lab courses require ALOT of at home study time. Most other courses can be taken in 8 week semester sessions! I've mainly enrolled in courses at the VA Beach campus, and the professors in the science building are awesome! I couldn't have done as well without their support! I'm not gonna lie, the HESI was hard. My associates degree was heavy in BIO & CHM and it took me a while to finish the test. I had an iPhone app that I worked with several times a day, and I read a few prep books. You definitely need to have some experience in all of the subjects that they list. Nothing is let out!
Hey, everyone! I've been following this thread for a few days now and finally decided to make an account. I was accepted into Cohort 4. I'm working on the checklist and have a question about the Certified Profile stuff. Do we scan the labs and other documents onto our computer and then upload them to our profile? I'm not sure how to upload my AHA card because I don't have a hard copy--my professor gave us ecards.
I have an eCard too from May when I took a CNA course. It's American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR AED, but I do not think I was child certified. Does anyone know if we are okay with adult? I plan to print out the card and then take a picture of the document, email it to myself, and upload to Certifier Profile as a .jpg file. I guess another (possibly easier) way is to just screenshot the eCard when it is open on your computer screen, save, and upload the file. I am almost positive that they would accept eCards as that is one way the American Heart Association is distributing them now.
Also, I just got a quote from NSO for the professional Liability Insurance. My quote was $38 annually, and I just wanted to ask if anyone else was given that approximate amount before I completed the application and paid.
@btm152 I would call and ask. From the letter I received, they want a signed letter of intent to enroll in the program by November 3 via mail, so I plan to send that out today or tomorrow. There is also a checklist of items they want uploaded to a website by November 30 from what I understand.

I was going to say basically the same thing!! I have my BLS right now as well, and will have to renew in January, so I'm in the same situation as you.
