Ticked off and ready to quit job!

Published

I have been working at this nursing home for a little over a week now and I am pissed off and upset. They made it sound so nice when they hired me and a few others. They told us we would be able to make up our schedules which that is a lie. They also told us if we want any days off to request 30 days in advance. We have to work two holidays before we get one off. There's this woman that does the scheduling and I asked to request the 24th and 25th of december. She said you can't request holidays off, or weekends off. So I told her well can I have these days off and she said why do you want days off and I told her you said if we want days off to request them. She said we can request time off but we might not get it if it's short staffed and they need help. They;re always short staffed they're too cheap to hire anyone. I found out they cut out a lot of stuff before I came like wwekend differential, etc. Plus they had up on a sign a position to work every weekend but it's not weekend warrior. Someone said they ain't calling it that cause they don't wanna pay more. Then the other problem I have is that they only gave me three days orientation when it should've at least been a week. They made me a floater, how am I every going to get a routine or get familiar with anything. I'm new to all this stuff. They trained me more on msu then they did any other unit but they won't let me work down there. They put me on the hardest unit called south and never trained me down there. I needed help with everyone cause they're heavy and totals except for like two. I got behind and couldn't do my last rounds or give this guy a shower. So he complained and I heard the nurses and others were talking about me. How are you gonna only train me for three days and didn't even train me on that unit and expect me to know what to do with those people. They told someone they needed me on the floor. So now after the shower incident they decided to give me a few more days of orientation. But it's on msu again but once again they don't even have me working down there and the woman they have orientating me doesn't even know anything about that unit. Should I just find another job or hang in there to get a few months to a year experience and move on to a better place.

Hey!

Is it your first position as a RN?

Hi--Do you think it will get any better if you wait around? Someone told me once that if you put up with intolerables, not only will it not get better, but you will give the higher ups proof that it's OK with you.

You asked, so here's my advice: quit. Don't list it on your resume. In effect, your facility didn't survive YOUR probationary period.

One thing is certain: if you stay, you will continue to feel bad, which isn't good for you. And if you feel bad, and you dread going to work, how will you come across to your patients?

Hook up with some friends who like their jobs and apply there. You will start out with an optimistic outlook, you'll know more about how it is from the inside, and you will give a message to your (current) facility.

Good luck!

I_Love_Donuts this is my first stna job.

Okay, it is your arss on a biscuit if rounds don't get done, not staffing or admin. And, they cut shift differential:eek: WTH??

Get out! and, yeah, don't list this place on your resume! It woudln't suprise me if they would stab you in the back if some one called to verify employment.

I would leave and see if there are any Doctor's office jobs available..You KNOW they don't work many weekends or Holidays...I wouldn't take what you are taking unless I had their original promises in writing and could show it to them..It isn't worth the misery....Good luck but get out of there unless you really feel you can't....There are so many other places you can go...Take care

If you quit, be sure and let them know exactly why you are leaving. You said it quite well to us. Maybe they can improve themselves.

My motto is "trust your instincts" you already know that you are being dumped on. I would just print out what you typed and attatch it to your resignation letter. Don't worry about finding another job you will and be a better nurse for realizing what a awful work situation you are in. Good luck.

What is a stna? I could never work in a nursing home. When I was a student I was a nurse's aid on a very heavy med surg floor and almost all of the pts were nursing home pts. They were full of contractures and decubitis and they were incontinent and I never had any help and I felt like I could never get anything done.:o :o

They had no business putting you in a float position with only three days orientation no less. Float is usually reserved for employees with prior experience. I would resign as well. Staying isn't going to make the situation any better. You'd most likely burn out inside of 6 months. You are a nursing student correct? Have you considered applying for a nurse tech position at a hospital? It's a great way to gain clinical experience. Best of luck!

Your orientation schedule might be suitable for an aide with a lot of experience and your post does not tell us how much you have...At least they are scheduling you for more...Follow the chain of command and try to get yourself on one unit for some length of time-It will improve your performance in the long run........As for the self-scheduling-If you did not get it in writing-they did not say it (learn that lesson well) As for the holidays-You just started-you have to work 2 holidays before requesting one off...and you went and asked for Christmas eve and day? Is there another holiday in there that I don't know about? You should be working T-giving and Xmas and they told you that.....NOt too many nurses walk into a job this close to the holidays and have the cojones to ask for Xmas off.....Unless you become a school nurse or work in a doctor's office you should expect to work your share of the holidays-and making demands right at the get-go can cause alot of ill feeling among your new co-workers......
