well first off he always looked like an angry person, very angry

but esp. weird I think it started when he came to pick my patient and he had to wait some because I am dealing with a critical one. Ever since then when he sees me he looks like he wants to punch me. And he doesn't even make me sign back the patient which we do routinely. He's like acting out or something but quietly. I know an off behavior when I see one this is one. geez how do i deal with this guy. I've been ignoring but i want to confront him next time and say like "You look like you want to punch me" Idk this has to stop it makes me uncomfortable

Let's look at things from HIS point of view.

Pt A needs to go to Xray. He arrives on unit - and is told he has to wait because Nurse for Pt A is busy with a "critical pt".

So he waits. This makes him late for the next pt. that nurse complains because HER critcal pt had to wait to get to Xray.

And then, a few hours later, the original nurse has a "critical pt A" that needs an xray RIGHT NOW but has to wait because transport is backed up!

Why is transport backed up? Because 2 hours ago, transport had to sit around waiting for the nurse to take care of Pt A!

No wonder transport gets upset with nursing!

Why in the name of Florence Nightengale are you supporting a TRANSPORTER over a professional nurse!

And all the while the transport coordinator is breathing down their neck because they are behind schedule.

I'm honestly speechless at your comment.

I have a stoic and serious look all the time. I'm just a hardened nurse with compassion running on fumes.

Have you seen the movie Stepbrothers? Because when I read your post, I immediately pictured the scene in the treehouse!

We did not all start our as professional nurses. Some of us started off in ....TRANSPORT! In all seriousness though, if we all do not work together as a team, we all fail. No one role is "above" another. For the wheels to turn smoothly, we need all members of the team.

Of course we all need to work together. The transporter is the one not working as a team player.

I treat each and every person I come across with respect.

However,, there is indeed one role "above" another.

It is her responsibility to sign that patient in.. she has more responsibility , therefore her role deserves MORE respect.

If nurses can't support nurses on the fact that we deserve more respect than a transporter.. we're doomed!

I really don't think she/he is supporting the transporter over the nurse. I think it was just an possible explanation of how it can be difficult to be a transporter.

Look at it this way...a surgeon pulls a nurse from her medpass so the nurse can help the surgeon with a dressing change. Then, when the nurse goes back to the medpass the surgeon pulls her away again to help turn a pt so he can evaluate someone's incision. A half an hour later the surgeon berates the same nurse for not giving preop meds to his next 'case.' I think it is pretty unfair to nurse to blame her in that situation. Well, how in the name of Hippocrates can I take the side of an ADN NURSE over a skilled surgeon?!

Sorry, but I cannot equate the reponsibility one has in their job with the amount of respect they deserve.

As a society if we can't give respect to each other based on the fact that another person is a human....society is doomed.

His angry face could just be his facial expression, it may not be directed to you personally. When transporters/lab/environmental/supply workers look evil around me, I'm always mirror their facial expression (then smile) and then I say a corny joke about the shift being over soon. Then I tell them that I'm sorry if I'm making them behind with their work. I try never to come across that my work is more important then theirs.

I have chatted with a lot of transporters and they told me that they are timed and some of the supervisors don't believe them when they say the patient was not ready. I work in a major hospital and there is only 2 of them on night shift, so they get in trouble if they fall behind schedule. There has been times when I offered to talk their manager when I held them up.

What's wrong with supporting a transporter? I was once a transporter and loved my job.

Alright you guys never mind, I feel that making this post is a mistake. I feel like one of those victims who made the mistake of speaking up and just being ridiculed. When I say a transporter is acting angry towards me that is what I meant, some posts make up sad stories to explain this behavior which is useless. Assuming that I am an idiot person with emotional intelligence of an ant not to try discerning a situation before asking help about it. Those comments are really shallow.

Thank you to those who assumed my assessment of the situation is competent that led me towards actionable solutions and did not make me feel guilty by being threatened and asking for help.
