This is a surreal feeling---I beat the NCLEX beast! Here's my story

Published

OMG I don't know where to start so I'll start by saying I PASSED! I guess the 3rd time is really a charm. I just took my exam this past friday 08/08/08 (wow I never realized all those '08's LOL) and just found out today I passed. For almost a year, I have read post after post of how others have passed and prayed and hoped that one day I would be able to say the same. There were times where I felt maybe I would never be able to say the same. If you read my previous posts you'll know why I really had to pass this time around. The other 2x I didn't finish my exam (finished in the 200s), this time my computer shut off at 75qs after less than 2 hours with a 15 min break. I have really bad test anxiety but I wasn't going to let it get the best of me this time around. I worked too damn hard and sacrificed toooooo much time to have to go in and take it again. In NJ if you fail 3x you have to take a remedial class before you can sit for the 4th time so I had a lot of weight on my shoulders. As I was taking the test the questions seemed easy and although I felt like I was taking my time the answers came to me. I didn't want to tell anyone this before I got my results LOL.

I graduated last may with honors so it was a low blow and reality check when those who didn't do as well in nursing school passed on their first try and I didn't. Another low blow was hearing about students who just graduated this may pass and I was yet to do so. NCLEX doesn't care how you did it school. I never let how I did in school determine my study plan because I studied hard the first time yet I didn't pass (I cried for 3 hrs straight) and the second attempt I cried for a few days. For a little over a year, my family has gone on the NCLEX-RN rollercoaster with me and hurt and worried for me because I was so stressed.

I studied everyday, worked less than 15 hrs a month, couldn't contribute financially, and watched my mom work from 7am-7pm and then leave to go back to work on the same day from 11pm-6:30am. She did that 4 days a week for a few months and it hurt me so bad. :crying2: I worked so hard for this and I cherish it and I can't wait to go help others. I want to say thanks to allnurses because it kept me motivated, thanks to everyone who replied to my posts, and thank you sooooo much Suzanne. I completed part one of your plan but didn't get to finish part 2. Part one was so good that I was already starting to think like a nurse :-)

Here's my advice:

1) Suzanne's plan (Saunders Review)

2) P & D book---this is how NCLEX wants you to think

3) Questions (make sure to review rationales to right and wrong answers)

***I wrote rationales on a notebook but I didn't get a chance to review them, please make sure to review your notes***

4) Lippincott Q &A book

5) Lots of questions

Congrats to the new RNs and for the soon to be RNs don't EVER give up, you came too far to give up now. You can do it, if you have any questions PM me and I'll get back to you. Good luck :redbeathe

It is all the same. If not already in the USA you are aware of Ca and no license without SSN and retrogression?

yes i'm aware of CA not granting license w/o SSN, also i heard much about retrogression since most of my friends are affected by it. but i have a different case because ill be entering US on a k1 visa. what concerns me is, do i still need to get a visa screen certificate?while my k1 visa is on the process?thanks again :)

No if entering on a K1 then you do not need VSC

thank you so much. i thought i still need to take ielts/toefl for the VSC.i and my fiance are arguing, he was telling me i don't need to get VSC.

I just took the NCLEX again the second time around! I feel much better about it this time. My previous attempt merited me all 265 "glorious" questions, but this time around I had studied my buns off, and I had about 100 questions (I honestly am not sure since I wasn't looking right at the count corner when the screen clicked off). I felt pretty confident for most of the exam (resting assured, however, that there were questionss which really stumped me!) So, here is to hoping :o) Oh, and God is still faithful...AND...if for some reason I had to take it again, I would hop right back on the horse (but I sincerly hope that sentiment won't be tested!)

I'm sooo happy for you! you never gave up!!!:yeah::yeah::nurse:

lol. I'm so quick to reply, but so was my state board with my test results. I passed! yahoo! All glory to God for this one. Test anxiety could not prevail as I constantly turned to Jesus for peace :o)

My soon-to-be fiance took the test yesterday as well and we became RN's together! How sweet is that? =o)

Congratulation, :yeah::yeah::yeah:I took the test yesterday. I'm still waiting for my result. I'm so depressing now. I had lots of SATA questions about Meds's side effects and adverse effects that I did not know the answers 20+ questions:crying2::crying2::crying2:. I'm in panic mode now cause I felt like I only got about 5 questions right out of 75 question and my exam stopped at 75 :banghead: I think this is the first time that I posted here cause I'm so depressed.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!. AWESOME :yeah:Your story is a eye opener and a great motivator for me. You are trully blessed. You will make a great nurse because of the preserverance you have.

i felt the same way (about the test) while i was taking it, but i didnt want to tell nobody about how some questions seemed easy because i was afraid it will get back to me lol. i stopped in about an hour and a half at 75 so i really panicked because i thought it was too short of a test time :( but anyways i passed the exam (i just found out today) and now i'm encouraging my friends who still have to take it to just be confident and listen to what your gut is saying when the date is coming closer (i had to reschedule because i felt like i was not ready)

you have a very encouraging message for everyone of us. i agree that a lot of people have encouraged me while i was reviewing for my test (altho I was more of a lurker until after i took my test...). you've been through a lot and your journey is very inspirational! my aunt took her second test last june and failed again :( she was very saddened and now she is thinking of giving up. i will continue to encourage her and support her and share your story (if it's alright with you).

more power to you and good luck with your future nursing career :) you will be a great nurse:nurse:

Congratulations
