This is just very unfair, not sure about nursing future

Right now, I am just really bitter about nursing. I failed one course, and was prepared to take it over again. Recently, I discovered that my school has revised one of the nursing courses in the curriculum. It will incorporate the course I failed with the course I passed--so the class will be combined. Which means I will have to retake two courses over again, one I alredy passed. I am very angry, and upset about this. I worked so hard to pass that other course, it was not easy for me, and to discover I have to do it all over again is enough to make me want to quit nursing school all together and pursue something else. I don't even want to think about this because it brings tears to my eyes. It was a very rough semester for me and to have to retake something that I passed (which was not easy for me) is so painful.

I really don't know what to do at this point. Administration has their mind made up. I am too angry to even do it over again.

I'm not sure if my school offers apricot learning assessment. I can inquire about it on Monday.

I'm not sure if the revised course will even be the same. Might use a different textbook, tests may be different. I am not looking forward to this. Do you know where I can go to file a complaint against the school??

Filing a complaint against the school isn't going to do you any good. Who are you going to complain to? The school itself? They have a reason for restructuring the program this way, it just isn't obvious to you right now.

I'm not understanding what the big issue is. So they have two classes that they have combined into one. You previously took them as separate classes- passed one and failed one. So you have already learned 1/2 the material. Tests probably WILL be different but if you understand the material, that should be a non-issue.

If you want to be a nurse, this is a rather silly reason to quit.

I am having trouble understanding why this upsets you. You already know half the material, so the class should be easier to pass...

My dear that is what the devil wants you to think, it is one of those hindrances that we are bound to comprehend once you are getting closer to your success, life itself is not fair, but you have come to far to quit, many people I know will die for your position which being in the program; wipe your tears and buckle up and move on, find your inner strength you can do it and no amount of course or repeat is worth taking away your joy in the future.

You need to get past the feelings and take a long-term approach. You want to be a nurse? Then when the hoops present themselves, you JUMP through them. It's either jump and go on with your life, or carry around this anger and bitterness, letting it slowly eat away at your soul for however long you CHOOSE to carry it.

The CHOICE is YOURS.

If you truly feel that it's the worst decision you've ever made, by all means drop out. If you feel that way because one class got changed around, that's an overreaction, in my opinion. This type of stuff happens all the time in all kinds of schools. Just kind of the way it works. If this is too much for you, the nursing program itself very likely will be too.

But...if you're just venting and got it out of your system, then I hope the combined class goes well for you since you actually should know half the material. Good luck.

Sounds like a money grab to me. I would drop out immediately and choose another school.

I must have misread it. It sounded like a class that was passed also needed to be retaken because of it.

I don't think it's a money grab. It didn't come off as the school is requiring by policy that the OP retake two classes.. The OP just happened to fail right after the school revised the curriculum. The class that she/he failed is no longer available in the same format.

No, it's that two classes that were separate before were combined into one. Since the OP failed the one class, s/he needs to retake it but the class that s/he failed has now been combined with another class so s/he has to take that class and doesn't like it. I gather it's something like Peds and Maternity used to be separated but now have been combined into a Maternal Child Nursing class or something like that. If you fail the Maternal part and need to retake it, you need to take Maternal Child Nursing even though you may have already passed Peds because that is now the class that fulfills the Maternity nursing requirement.

OP- what would your plans be instead if you dropped out completely? If it is to do anything with nursing, I would stick with it.. you'll be putting yourself even more behind if you drop out of the program. It may seem unfair now, and like you're wasting your time, but maybe this is a good thing! It will give you some extra time with material you admittedly had problems with :up:
