hey friends, I had been contemplating working in the states since I graduated , left that thought alone when I got hired here right after graduating nursing school. Well now the thought has reoccured to me, kinda wanting a change, wanting to see more than my own country... a new start etc, Its not gonna be tomorrow or anything , I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on potential cities for a young'ish, single, med-surg workin RN
I think it would have to be the big city cuz I'm such a total city girl.... plus I'm a slave to public transportation for the time being , but I cannot stand being far away from a mall etc (yeah yeah how girly I know!) , there are so many things to consider, and I'm only in the first stages of even thinking about it really , but still if anyone has any definite "yeah thats a great place" or "heck no, dont go there" advice lemme know!
One more boost for Philly...the Eagles are in the playoffs!! And where else can you run up the steps to the Art Museum, "Rocky" style (you can be gasping for breath and have chest pain aftertward, too, but that's another story). Or how about the "Yo!" festival every year...riding a horse and carriage down the cobblestone streets of Olde City...and you're not too far from the Jersey shore!
Well, that was actually more than one boost, sorry, just got enthused there. It's just a great city, really nice 'burbs.
beautiful western ny.....all the snow you could ask for....free of charge....and wendy i need a girl like myself to go out guy-hunting with....there's lots of em here.....:chuckle
Wendy, come to the Twin Cities! Warmer climate than Canada; we have the Mall of America (as if Kristy didn't mention it!) but we also were the birthplace of indoor shopping malls: Southdale was the first indoor shopping mall ever! We have great hospitals and a strong nurse union in our nursing association (there are also hospitals here without unions for those of you who are biased against them).
In June, 2004, the ANA will have their national convention here-- you could come and check us out if you want to. We are also close enough to Canada that you can go visit family easily!
And of course, a lot of your friends are here-- like me! Come visit us; I think you will like it here!
And yes, NRSKarenRN, Moonshadeau and I did try the Philly steak sandwiches; they are very good! I did like the City of Brotherly Love, BTW. But it was so DANG HOT there the beginning of July!!!!
Jenny, you need that heat to ward off the Minnesota frostbite!
Tell Wendy how much you fell in love with our Reading Terminal Market Philadelphia's Own Downtown Farmers' Market.

Along with our New Years Mummers Parade, the Mummers also do a Summer Strut. http://www.gophila.com/holidays/mummers.htm
New York is one hour by Metroliner---Jersey Shore and Atlantic City Casino's 1 hr away; Pocano Mountains 1-2 hr ride. We have it all. We really are the City of Brotherly Love. I'm willing to act as your personal tour guide too.

Yes, I DID fall in love with the Reading Street Market. I hope to visit it again when I come out that way to see Aunt Hazel someday soon!

Moonshadeau, Bassbird, and I watched the July 1st Summer Strut. As a matter of fact, they both were dancing in the street with some of the different entertainers! And I have the pictures to prove it!!

I'm throwing in another vote for Boston, and COL be damned! It's a great city. Lots of history, yet cosmopolitan. Some GREAT shopping, world-famous hospitals, awesome night-life, superior colleges and universities. And the food???? To die for!
Damn! I think I just convinced myself to move back.
